Fashion may vary in a society according to age, social class, generation, occupation and it is changing all the time. So I take the 1950s as an example and specifically talk aboout part of the fashion line.

In the 1950s, influenced by Dior which is founded in 1946, western women considered it modern to wear a dress setting their waste and a overcoat which looks like a cocoon. This is really a revolution in fashion.

Above, it is a picture of the first series Dior published on their season show in the 1947. We can see that all of them have a coat like cocoon, and also their mid-calf skirts shows the new fashion trend is coming. The series called New Look represented that women were fighting for their own thoughts instead of being in the possesion of men.

Despite of New Look, women also had meny other ways to dress themsleves. The TV sereies called The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel showed the fashion trend in the 1950s. The heroine wore many strapless dresses covering all her shoulder.

It is at that time that women began to realize they should pay more attention to themselves instead of only caring about their children and husband. Since it was only the beginning of modern fashion, many of the dresses are not that sophisticated.
