<title>Distraction is the main object of the red herring. Look over there, not over here.... People use red herrings all the time, sometimes without even knowing they are doing it. This picture shows a Mom using a treat as the red herring to distract her daughter from whatever toy the daughter wants to buy. A red herring in a book or movie is usually an extra character that is brought in to be a distraction. </title>

<title>English fox hunters trained their hunting dogs with stinky red herrings. What? How? Why? Good questions! It takes a special kind of hunting dog to stay focused, regardless of all the other smells in the air so the English fox hunter came up with the idea to use the stinky red herring to teach their hunting dogs to stay on the scent of the fox and not be distracted by another smell. Hence, the term red herring for anything that diverts attention from the issue at hand. </title>

<title>Did you know.... when the herring fish is smoked, it turns red because of the smoke? Hmmm..... very interesting and VERY stinky! So stinky in fact that it was used to train English hunting dogs a long time ago. And, it is how the fallacy began..... </title>

<title>A teenage girl has an early curfew but wants to go to a party. She uses the red herring of going to her friends house for a sleepover to do homework so she will be able to stay out late. Her Mom will be distracted by the red herring of &quot;homework&quot; to think about, or consider, anything else</title>
