My evidence for this is that in the video, they stated that newts don't attack humans, and if you don't disturb them they dont do anything to you, this means that they wouldnt need more self defense as they wouldnt attack anything.

I choose claim 1, as a change to the eminent environment, would not change its defenses, but a new threat most likely would. As it is small and would most likely get eaten, it would have a "you are going down with me" defense system.

i think its claim 1 because since they are small it is easy to get eaten by bigger animals so they evolved to have posinous skin so that they cant get eaten anymore at least not by animals.

The reason I choose Claim 1 is because it make more sense. They are poisonous most likely for their own defense, so they can protect themselves if they are attacked by other creatures.So poisonous is really really important for them. If there are more poisonous that mean that there are many creatures that are dangerous to them

I support claim 2, but not 100%, it couldn't have been claim 1 because the newts couldn't have needed to defend themselves and in some miracle got a mutation of poisonous skin. Most likely, there could have been a mutation or a variation change and I could have expanded throughout the environment the newt population was situated in.

The reason for this is that newts are smaller animals that have many predators and their poison helps them a lot. If something was going on in the environment it wouldn't prove to be useful because it cant help them survive in that type of issue.

I think it is claim 2 because I don't believe that claim 1 is realistic. I don't think it is possible to change individual newts, but instead since the environment is always changing, it is likely that animals are evolving with it.

I believe that claim 2 best fits this situation because in the pre unit assesment, many questions involved the concept of the environment and how it has a role in a population, therefore I believe that the environment affected in someway the increase of poison in the Newts.

There is a possibility that the newts developed their poisonous skin as a defense mechanism against their predators because it's more important for them to defend themselves than to poison their prey. It wouldn't make sense if the newts mutated in order to adapt to their habitat, since that isn't the problem that most newts face.

At the moment, I believe that the most accurate claim is claim one. I can't be sure of course, because we do not have any solid evidence to help us, but I also feel like it wouldn't make sense for something to just come into the environment and threaten the newts, as well as the fact that their poison is already very strong. I also know that most of the questions in the pre-assessment were about changes in the environment, so it makes more sense for this part of the unit to be about changes in the environment. I am of course, still not sure, but this seems to make the most sense to me as of now.

I believe that the reason the Newts became more poisonous is because in the past 20 years we have seen mass changes to the earth with climate change. Which means that where the newts live there could have been a change in the diet or in the habit, which signifies that there might be some change in there body or there venom. It also doesn't make sense that the newt's could chose if they needed to become more poisonous or not.

I agree with claim 2 because something in the environment changed and that changed the newts. Poison dark frogs are only poisonous when their food is made up of poisonous bugs but if they don't eat those bugs that won't harm anything with their poison. This could also be the case with the newts. If their food became more poisonous over time they could also have became more poisonous as time passed. That is why claim 2 is more accurate than claim 1.

I think that it's claim 1 even though both claims are relatively related, because over time the newts have evolved. In this case, their body changed by becoming more poisonous. This could have happened due to a change in the environment where they lived. So, they had to face new threats and dangers.

I believe the newt population cultivated more poisonous skin characteristics over time, in order to protect themselves and as a form of self defense to use against predators. I presume that this was a feature that was first introduced due to a gene mutation and that they were able to, over a period of time, pass on the trait. Alyhough i believe this is the reason they had elevated concentrations of poison, we would have to conduct a inquisition to prove tbat claim 1 is correct. I think that self defense is the reason they developed more levels of poison, and a lethal touch

I believe that claim 1 is most likely to be because due to the humans that started doing research in the forest, more of the newts probably died. So, to defend themselves from this new invasion in their habitat, they increased their poison over the course different generations to stay alive.

I think that it's claim 2 because as humans, we also relate to adaptation depending on our environment's circumstances, considering that people get used to weather or light natural disasters after years of adaptation to where they live (city, country, town...) This also means that the poisonous newts could've been hunted more in the last couple of years, therefore they became more poisonous to defend themselves from the predators and the threats to their population.

I support claim 2, considering that claim 1 states, "Individuals became more poisonous because they needed to defend themselves." The part that I don't understand is, how can it change from harmful to suddenly poisonous? That is why I believe that claim 2 make more sense, because the only way that the newts became poisonous is because their environment changed.

I believe that claim 2 is correct. I think this because I know that organisms evolve and change in order to adapt to their environment. I agree with claim one because they have to protect themselves from the pretites so they gain more poison. So like the video was saying they are really poisonous and with more poison they have better risks for safety, just like a poisonous frog , depending on what type of frog it is. It can be really not safe.
