When I was a teenager I changed my school the last year of my secundary studies. It was a hard decision but it was supported by my parents because we were convinced the new school it was going to be better for my. At that school I met my Physics teacher who was a Civil Engineer and that field liked me a lot. I think if I wouldn´t have changed my School probably I would have other kind of profession.

I have often asked myself how we can pack our whole life into a backpack and move to another country, another culture. My answer is this, I could do it, because I just had to pack things because my family was with me. However, on those flustered moment, I also wonder what if we hadn't decided to live abroad?, my daughter wouldn´t have discovered so many gifts that you received when you know another culture.

About a year ago, I was able to attend a spiritual retreat made in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta. I spent six days sleeping in a small village called Nabusimake, where I slept on the floor, ate only canned food and was very cold. However, if I hadn't gone to this place, I wouldn't have been able to help many indigenous children in need. Likewise, if I hadn't gone through these difficulties, I might not appreciate everything I have today as much as I do.

I didn't know what I wanted to study when I graduated from high school, so I chose my career based on what people told me to study, but I was really unhappy. I talked to my parents about that and they were very understanding. If I hadn't had the chance to change my career, I wouldn't been able to be as happy as I'm right now.

When I was at school, my parents wanted that I study public accounting and I didn't wanted. I always know that I wanted to be journalist. However, I decided to study a technology degree in accounting. If I hadn't chosen that career, I would have dissapointed my parents. After that, I knew that I could be so good in any career if I propose (I was a tutor of my professor. imagine that!). Perhaps, if I had continued my career accounting, probably I would have more money, I would earn more money, but I have no regrets. Now, I'm happy with my decision and my parents support me.

I have always been interested in travel and in how people live in different countries and cultures. I believe this interest came from my parents, as ever since I was very young, I have seen all the pictures they took during their travels and heard all the stories. When my company offered me a job abroad, I did not hesitate to accept it, as I was really keen to work in a different culture. This decision allowed me to travel to many places, learning from other cultures and sharing experiences with various kinds of people. If I had not accepted the offer, I would have regretted not taking advantage of the opportunity, and I would not have travelled so much.

This year I'm completing my 6th year working at Universidad de los Andes, it's a place I had always dremead to work in because is near to my home and it's an organisation with such an important name in the world of work. When I was studying my degree, the university I studied in had a internship agreement with Los Andes but at first I couldn't apply becasue there were no open offers. After graduated I tried it once more, and contacted the director of Decanatura de Estudiantes at that point, she was well surprised with my interest on working there and took me into account when a vacant was opened a month later. If I hadn't been insistent on working there, I might have been working on such a different place and not as comfortable and satisfied as been at Universidad de los Andes.

When I was studying for my undergraduate degree, I chose to do a thesis as my degree option. It was hard work, but it helped me find a mentor who helped me complete it and achieve it. He also motivated me to continue studying harder and strive for a master's degree. Now I think about what would have happened if I hadn't chosen to do a thesis. Perhaps I wouldn't have continued studying and pushing myself beyond my limits.

When I was a teenager, I wanted to join the army and build a career as an officer. If my father had allowed me to follow that path, I would have gone to military school and my life would have been completely different. I might have traveled to distant places, faced strict discipline, and learned to live under military rules and why not, maybe dead or with an investigation in the prosecutor's office. However, because my father opposed the idea, I ended up studying systems engineering, which was one of my passions since I had learned programming as a child. If I had joined the army, I wouldn’t be a systems engineer now, and I wouldn’t have the technical skills and opportunities that define my present. Looking back, I realize that if things had happened differently, I might not be enjoying the career I truly love today

I was in a job where everything felt safe. I had a stable position and good colleagues. Then the opportunity to change companies came up, and I hesitated. The offer seemed uncertain, the role unfamiliar.

The first few months were difficult, but little by little, things began to change in a positive way. I learned new skills and met great people at work.

Now, looking back, I realize: if I had ignored that instinct to change, I would have missed the best professional experience of my life.

If I hadn’t chosen to study Software Engineering, I wouldn’t have discovered how much I enjoy solving problems through technology. When I started, I didn’t imagine how many opportunities this career could offer me. If I had given up during the difficult semesters, I might not have graduated, and today my life would look completely different.

When my niece started school, her teacher noticed something special, she was exceptionally intelligent but shy, her teacher encouraged her to participate and gave her small but meaningful opportunities, inviting her to join a dance routine, asking her to share her ideas in front of their classmates.
