He was born 22 March 1923 in France and died 22 September 2007. The most famous for his stage persona as “Bip the Clown”. He performed professionally over 60 years worldwide. After the second world war he studied dramatic art and mime in Paris while earlier he only did few major performances. In 1969 he opened his first school which taught fencing, acrobatics, ballet and mime. It stayed open for two years. In 1978 he established a school for the creation of the student of the art of theatrical mime. He also taught a major workshops which among the students was Paolo Franzato who is a prestigious theatrical pedagogue. In 1996, he established the Marceau Foundation to promote mime in the United States. The major and minor is when the characters on stage focus on one character. This help the audience understand where their attention needs to be. We also exaggerate our movements because since our face is only one emotion our bodies needs to show the audience what we are and what we are doing. We can also mime characters in a cliché and stereotypical manner. This helps the audience understand easier who our character is. We can also use status as a way to show the ranking in play by just changing our posture and our way of walking. We also must never show the side of the mask or touch it because this will break the illusion that we have created. Since we can't talk it may sometimes be hard to convey a message so you can use cards or a voice over to help the play bring their message across. This helped the audience figure out where their attention needs to be. We exaggerated the movement when the rich wife was trying to flirt with her husband and get his attention. This made the audience more aware of what she was doing and why. Acting cliche and stereotypical is the easiest way for the audience to understand what our characters are. It helps the audience understand of what is going on and what the situation is. The use of status can make it clear to the audience of how ha the authority. For example, the rich father in our play, his back is straight, his shoulders are back and his head is held high.
In our performance we used posters to illustrate what the characters are saying/thinking and to create symbolism. For example, we created postcards of the rich wife text messages to show that she doesn't care about her family. In an other scene, we had cards of the floor with "wealth" and "love". Each character that was in a certain family went a certain way.
