Haggis is a traditional Scottish savoury pudding containing sheep's pluck (heart, liver and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices and salt. This is then mixed with stock and cooked while encased in the sheep's stomach. In my culture haggis is usually served with neeps and tatties which are known as mashed potatoes and turnips. Haggis may not sound appetising but it is a true and well-known Scottish dish.

Shortbread is a traditional dessert in Scotland that is perfectly crumbly, buttery and delicious. Shortbread originated back around the 12th century when it was originally made from leftover bread-making dough that was left to dry out and harden into biscuit bread. Over time butter replaced the yeast and it evolved into shortbread. "Short" refers to the crumbly texture of a large quantity of butter. Butter was a luxury item so shortbread was enjoyed on special occasions. The shortbread we know today is attributed in Scotland by Mary, Queen of Scots in the 16th century. Traditionally Scottish shortbread is baked in either a rectangular or square slab cut into fingers.

Ingredients:
Shortbread is a simple and easy dessert to make as it only consists of three ingredients:
- Butter (1/2 cup)
- Flour (1 1/4 cup)
- Sugar (1/4 cup)

The most relevant aspects of Competency Standard 12.3 for me are person-centred care, family-focused care, and effective communication. I have now enhanced my understanding of Competency Standard 12.3 by recognising the impact of individual and family-centred care as the foundation of ethical practice as well as effective communication which is essential for culturally appropriate care. I have improved my understanding of these factors by recognising their importance in providing the best possible culturally appropriate care. Having learned how to understand each individual's unique values, needs, and preferences I will be able to ensure I am hearing what they have to say and they can know that they have been heard. I have now learned effective communication that overcomes language barriers to ensure my patients can fully understand their condition and treatment plan. This is essential for me in the workplace because I can now ensure that every patient, regardless of their background, receives the best possible care that is culturally appropriate, which will help me and my patients achieve better results in the future.

The social determinants of income and social protection, education and housing, basic amenities, and the environment play an important role in the health of migrants and refugees in Australia.

Income and social protection:
Migrants and refugees often face challenges with income and social protection challenges when they arrive in the country with limited economic and financial resources, which can lead to financial insecurity. They come from different countries and therefore face language barriers, which can make it difficult for them to access available social protection. Limited income leads to problems with housing, nutrition and healthcare, which can lead to many health problems.

Education:
Education is a fundamental aspect of health, as migrants and refugees who have travelled from other populations may face educational barriers, such as language differences, the lack of expertise and access to education. Their lack of access to proper education can make it difficult for migrants and refugees to understand their health information, which can delay their overall care.

Housing, Basic Amenities, and the Environment:
Migrants and refugees may find themselves in overcrowded or substandard housing, which can expose them to environmental hazards, poor sanitisation and there is a general lack of access to basic amenities. Unsanitary housing increases respiratory problems and illnesses, while overcrowded housing can make individuals more stressed and a lack of privacy can impact their mental health.

Addressing these issues will not only improve health but also promote greater equity for migrants and refugees in Australia.

Three common health problems that Syrian refugees may experience upon arrival are mental health problems, anaemia, iron Deficiency, and other blood conditions and Tuberculosis.

Mental health issues:
Refugees often experience trauma, loss and stress due to forced displacement, which can lead to problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety or depression. To deal with these issues, they should attend group therapy where they can talk about what they have been through as well as hear what other refugees have been through so they know they are not alone, which can be effective for PTSD.

Anaemia, Iron Deficiency, and other blood conditions:
This is common when it comes to the health of refugees as they will suffer from malnutrition. To treat iron deficiency, refugees will need to be guided through treatment options related to iron supplementation and dietary changes, such as foods richer in iron, including lean meats, nuts, beans and vegetables, in their meals, so they can now have a more balanced diet now they have the access.

Tuberculosis:
This infectious disease is a common concern among refugees coming from areas with high rates of tuberculosis. To treat active tuberculosis, refugees must undergo rigorous antibiotic treatment over several months. They will need to be monitored and monitored regularly to ensure they receive the best care possible to complete their treatment successfully.
