We are in the United States so that makes sense, but shouldn't we also be culturally sensitive considering that so many students come from places all around the world?

Kara

Sometimes students become enthused by following a specific line of inquiry and come up with their own ideas to pursue. This is tricky to 'hold' within the scheme of the unit and its time pressures of ensuring that the skills are taught and the knowledge understood (so to speak) that would allow for this exploration. Depending on the length of your lessons and number of lessons a week, these areas may have to be curtailed.
