Given the situation, if you were Mrs Ong, what are the proactive intervention skills you would choose to employ to address the issues? Explain the intervention skills and give concrete examples of how you would implement them.

Boosting interest of potential 'problem' student(s)
Given that there are only 20 min left, Mrs Ong could ask the students to quickly form groups of 4 (or groups of 3-5 students, depending on their seating arrangements), and ask them to come up with an interesting mind-map/illustration/infographic to highlight the important points of the lesson.
Doodling student - can doodle but in a productive way...
The rest (sleepy/dazed students) can at least take away something from the lesson.

Providing a non-punitive time-out
Giving them a short 5 min break and asking the class if they would like to wash their faces - not specifically pointing out specific students. If the problematic students (the ones falling asleep) do not move, teacher may walk to the student and softly asking them personally if they would like to freshen up.
Leading them in a quick-stretch activity also helps.

Remove distracting objects
Handphone box in the class so that students are not tempted to use their handphones during class - works for small classes with high integrity

Change the pace of activity
Use a pedagogical simulation or skit to teach the topic; have students act out and present to the class their civilisation based on textbook information or research
