Someone I know used social media as a guide for their life. What she was seeing online was tons of standards in today's world that would make you beautiful. Since she was comparing herself to the people she saw online she had unrealistic expectations and ended up having a eating disorder because she tried to look like them so much. This was a very negative effect for her since she had to then go to get serious help so she would eat and so she could be happy I'm her own body. Social media displayed a false standard that she tried to live up to and it caused her much pain emotionally and physically.

“Social learning theory, which has also been applied in the study of media violence, suggests that when individuals see a behavior portrayed in a positive way, they have a tendency to imitate and adopt it” (Excerpt From: Hilliard City Schools. “Unit 4: Mental, Emotional & Social Health (part 1).” v1.0. iBooks.). If people see something positive done they will most likely think it was a nice thing and would want to be seen that way so they would try to repeat the action.
