One of my favorites is the Barolo Palace. It's on Avenida de Mayo 1370. This building illustrates and pays tribute to Dante Allighieri's "The divine comedy". This palace has a unique architectural style: a neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic facade ends in a dome with a hindu design which represents the tantric union between Dante and Beatrice, both protagonists of "The Divine Comedy". There are guided tours to the Barolo palace on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. More information at www.palaciobarolotours.com

3- Its theatres

My hometown is one of the world's capital of theatres. Curtains in Buenos Aires are always up. There are about 200 theatres in Buenos Aires and they offer a great variety of plays: all-time classics, commercial and independent plays, musicals and operas in every price range you can imagine. One of my favorite theatres is the Avenida Theatre, on Avenida de Mayo 1222. I watched many great operas there at "Sobre paraíso" (Over Paradise level), which is a lovely euphemism for the cheapest seats, which aren't seats at all, but just a space behind the top seats of the last level. You can watch the plays standing up. That is, unless you take a portable folding chair, as a friend and I and many opera goers do. But it's totally worth it: these tickets are truly cheap! Two companies play there at present: Buenos Aires Lírica (http://www.balirica.org.ar/) and Juventus Lirica (http://www.juventuslyrica.org.ar/index.php)

2- The jacarandá tree-lined streets of Parque Chacabuco in November. My birthday is November 11, and these trees are in full bloom in that month. I love the way their purple blue flowers meet my eyes and feet as I walk through the city in November. There is a song about this tree I also love, by María Elena Walsh, which says "To the east and to the west/ it rains and it will rain/ a flower and another light blue flower/ of the jacarandá" You can listen to the song clicking on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3w4AvWLiPM

The government of Buenos Aires has defined 72 of its coffee houses and bars as being "notable" for their historical or cultural importance. You can find a full list here (http://www.buenosaireslocaltours.com/buenos-aires-city-guide/notable-bars/). My favorite one is "El Gato Negro", on Corrientes 1669, because as soon as I go through its door, I'm taken by the smell of its spice jars. I often buy a mix they make and label as "Hiung Liu" and which has different kinds of pepper and cardamom.
