For all instances of writing actives, I need to understand the subject I am about to write about. Thinking critically helps remove my thoughts from the subject to first have an unbiased fact of what it is before deciding on the tone I will take with the writing.

Critical thinking can really help to give someone perspective to struggles and triumphs that a person was never aware of.

By citing all the positives and gently highlighting all the negatives, better writing is produced.

Writing brings unity to subjects one might not consider together. Finding empathy for the villain is a good example of this.

"Instead of controlling his material, his material is controlling him. That wouldn't happen if he took time to establish certain unities" (Zinsser, 2016, 8).

Sometimes trapping yourself in a certain style that doesn't accurately portray your goal can cause your reader to get lost. Mixing different tones in the case presented by Zinsser caused the reader to give up on the text, and not fully understand the message that was conveyed.

"Decide what corner of your subject you're going to bite off, and be content to cover it well and stop. This is also a matter of energy and morale. An unwieldy writing task is a drain on your enthusiasm" (Zinsser, 2016, 8).

Repetitiveness gets really boring. If I am reading a story that won't stop saying the same line, plot point, or even if a character twist is predictable, I will usually put the book down. When the writer has fully given everything they can to a section of a story, they need to stop writing and start editing.

If possible to take a writing intensive class specific to a students major, do! Writing classes that are major or emphasis focused can help students learn how to professionally interact with colleagues and format proper correspondence.

Making small changes doesn't change the writing or allow for any growth of the writer. Understanding how to edit significantly will improve a writers pieces every time.

I was able to use this skill often in my MGMT 4140 class over the summer. I can't phrase an email to management the same way I phrase an email to a friend. Taking a step back and thinking about the task before completing it always produces a better result.

When I explored different lens's in English 3400, I had to keep myself from mixing up tones. Sometimes, I had done it without noticing and needed to edit heavily to avoid confusing the reader.

I found this to be relevant in a couple of assignments for my German Folklore class this semester. Sometimes when analyzing a fairytale it's hard to stop talking about it. I found this task especially hard when I have grown up hearing certain fairy tales and feel a connection to them. I can usually fix this issue by editing my work into something that covers everything I want to say, without saying too much.

My 4140 business style writing class helped me learn how to format emails, cover letters, resumes and hire/fire letters to hypothetical employees.

My German Folklore class really opened me up to this idea. With help from the teacher and other students I was able to see some different perspectives about the stories I had grown up hearing. They were not all positive. Learning the view others had taken on these stories encouraged me to consider problems I had been blinded to before.

Through my MGMT 3000 class we had the chance to complete multiple submissions and review each with our TA. Each time we submitted I would highlight what I had changed to show I put effort into making the writing better.

Through my English 3400 class I was granted the opportunity to examine many pieces of older literature that had been discarded. I was able to bring together the two pieces of writing and draw newer conclusions than those before me.

Through my English 3400 class I was able to talk through a lot of my assignments with my professor. With her help, I made significant changes to my structure of writing for her class and it helped with my understanding of the material.
