With this day in age, technology is becoming easier to access and many school-aged children are even walking around with the internet in their pocket. However, do any of us truly know what our students are doing online? As parents, teachers, and adults, it is our job to make sure that our students are safe and smart while using the internet. Internet safety, also known as online safety, is when you are smart about the things you say and do online. This means that internet users are knowledgeable on how they can keep themselves, as well as those around them, safe from harmful online activities that might threaten their personal information, prompt unsafe conversations with strangers, or even impact their mental health. Cyberbullying is the act of using a technology device (i.e., cellphone, laptop, tablet) to bully people online. This form of bullying can take place through text messages, emails, social media, or online chat rooms and typically involve the broadcasting of information that is damaging, hurtful, fictitious, or malicious. We may not be aware of the things that happen after a student leaves campus and goes home, but what we do know is how to teach our students the right way to use the internet.
