George Washington warned against political parties in his Farewell Address as these parties divide the United States into two. These political parties, although make it easy to align your opinions and views with the candidates can cause extreme division between the two parties, and evidently cause aggression towards one another. Washington's main concern was the distraction political parties bring to the elections and government. The political parties formations are always changing in time, originally Washington's intent was to not have a political party. These political parties in modern time ultimately shape the idea of the government. As these parties have overtaken everybody's separated idea of the candidates' decisions.

The political parties in the US have had immense impacts on our country. For example they are a big part of getting candidates elected and encourage civil participation. Political parties are the main factor of support for candidates. Political parties today have become two major parties which put people into two separate groups. These groups give people already created opinions instead of letting them have their own opinions. George Washington warned against political parties in his farewell speech because he feared possible corruption, threats to democratic principles and national unity. He also warned that political parties could lead to foreign influence and corruption within the government.

The formation of political parties within the US has shaped a divided, roughly two-party system. While there are more than two parties, the Democratic and Republican parties have routinely dominated our elections. Each party typically has conflicting values and ideologies about what they want America to be. This tension between parties has been known to lead to highly competitive elections and political discourse. In his farewell adress, President George Washington warned against the formation of political parties. He was a strong believer that doing this would cause the country to stray away from unity and harm the overall state of our nation and our democracy.

The formation of political parties in the US changed and shaped our political landscape into what it is today. The first major political party was known as The Democratic-Republican party. After the Civil war the party split into 2, the Democratic party had many supporters in the south while the Republican party had many supporters in the north. Republicans wish for both slavery and wage slavery to end. But when the civil rights movement started the republicans took the side of whites wishing for things to stay conservative. They attracted whites who opposed racial desegregation. While democrats wished for more equality and allowing blacks and whites to get along better. They worked with Jewish immigrants, Africans, farmers and workers. They attracted more people using equality and winning over the black voters the republicans lost. Many people feel pressured to vote for certain politicians because of where they live. This is likely why George Washington warned against political parties. Political parties heavily influenced people voting decisions. And can divide people who don't follow the same beliefs.

Though there is considerable disagreement among Americans on which political party is superior, most citizens can agree that having two parties continuously pitted against one another sparks unnecessary hate and ferocity within American politics. The fight between Democrats and Republicans persists even off of Capitol Hill. All over the country, whether an election nears or not, people often make a point to merge their identity with their political party, sometimes even detaching themselves from those with opposing political beliefs. This has its pros, as it can foster a stronger sense of community and create connections between people of the same party; however, there are also notable cons. People may treat others cruelly simply for what they check on the ballot, and violent attacks have been recorded from one member of a party towards another with no other motive than political conflicts. However, it is important to note that in recent years the political climate has shifted and many politicians bring in debates on moral codes and natural rights, instead of more enduring debates over business and foreign policy, which are often less controversial topics. When Washington was in office America was entirely different. The country that he envisioned did not include our 50 states, our industrial advancements, technological advancements such as the internet and cars, weapons as commonplace in American households, or many other aspects of American life that make political parties more profound than they would be in the 18th century. Despite all of this, he knew the basis of American society and anticipated that political parties would turn the United States of America into a very divided place, therefore he made a point to warn against them in his final address to the American people. Political parties seem like a great idea on paper, a system that can encourage debates and adaptable politics, but in reality, the system has proven to be detrimental to American unity. The idea of American identity has been long lost due to the fact that people view members of different political parties as complete opposers instead of fellow citizens. This is not what George Washington would have wanted for the country.

Political parties have overwhelmingly shaped the U.S. political system, even though they weren’t originally supposed to exist. The first parties, the Federalists and Democratic-Republicans, formed over disagreements about government power, and over time, they evolved into the Democrats and Republicans we have today. The two-party system has made it almost impossible for third parties to gain traction, and as a result, politics has become more about party loyalty than actual problem-solving. George Washington warned against this in his Farewell Address. He knew that they could split the country and create unnecessary conflict becoming so polarized that there’s little room for compromise, and parties care more about beating each other than actually helping people. Social media and TV-news have only made things worse, pushing extreme views and making it harder for people to have real conversations. Instead of being a way to solve problems, politics has turned into a constant fight, just as Washington feared.

The formation of political parties in the US changed our political landscape into what it is today by organizing voters around shared ideologies. This helped to structure debate and policy-making that provided a mechanism for politic accountability. Earlier in history, parties began to form despite Washington's farewell address that warned against them, where he had feared that divisions in government would undermine the nation's unity which would weaken the republic. Overtime, political parties have become a feature of American politics with the two-party system, dominating elections and shaping the government. Washington had concern for the prioritizing of parties over the common good that would result in gridlock and conflict. Today, this warning still exists, as the US faces increasing polarization between parties. This could result in impacting compromises and policy implementation in the government. Political parties have become integral to the democratic process, providing a means for citizens to organize for their interests and participate in the elections. Though the challenge to balance unity with prejudice in favor of a bias remains an issue in politics. -Billie Leet

The formation of political parties has shaped the United States and its political landscape into what it is today by creating a rift in between the two groups of people. The two current political parties, Democratic and Republican, stemmed from the political parties of the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. The original parties were constantly pitted against each other, and the parties now are still experiencing that. Because the parties and government officials are being pitted against each other on the government side of things, the individuals in society also experience that. There are mass amounts of hate that have stemmed from this divide of politics, and it has caused so much more harm than it has good. Before the formation of political parties, it was typically easy to come to a decision on things regarding government. Granted, that was a different time period, with different events occurring, such as the Revolutionary War, which was something all Americans wanted to win in order to gain freedom. After the formation of political parties up until now, there have been countless conflicts in both the government and in between citizens of the United States. This happens because of the hatred that has been spread about the opposite party by the other party, simply because they do not have the same ideals and beliefs. I believe that Washington advised against political parties in his farewell address because he knew it would cause this divide. His goal for the United States of America was to create an peaceful society that was able to make similar decisions on governmental matters. The peace of this society would have avoided the conflict we so regularly experience today.
