The EMP can be characterized through the rapid globalization, including economic growth and ideological growth, as well. This includes the economic, cultural, and technological expansion as well. Asia in particular experienced numerous changes in all three of those categories, and there were a plethora of changes throughout all of the regions in Eurasia. Change also was key to the Early Modern Period, as it helped transition from EMP to the Current Modern Period.

The Early Modern Time Period can be characterized as a string of events all contingent on each other. Every event, action, or occurrence, happened on behalf of another event, action, or occurrence. In addition, diverse contingent occurrences can be linked back to another occurrence, or is seen linking later during the EMP, which forced globalization. Asia, was the center of it all, as i can argue that during this time period, every event started rather because of Asia, or occurred in Asia.

The Early Modern Period (EMP) was a time of strategic expansion of empires and nations all over the world. During the EMP every decision that a nation made was carefully calculated in order to reach an end goal. You can see the calculated expansion in the different ways that Christianity was spread in China, in the way trade was conducted overseas (the indian ocean trade network), and the way nations conquered other nations/cities. Each decision a nation made during the EMP was motivated by the desire to establish long term economic wealth, religious influence, or status.

This can be displayed by the arrival of settlers in the Americas as this arrival was caused by the European desire to assert international influence. This arrival of settlers developed into a process of mercantilism and increased commercialism. Furthermore, the spice trade in Asia was a large economic occurrence and led to increased globalization and a global economy.

The EMP was a period characterized by growth and expansion through trade and empire building. Nations and regions were "butting heads", trying to constantly grow and have the upper hand, leading to developments in technology. As empires expanded, the globalization of trade resulted in wealth for many countries, but also death and decline of the quality of life. In china, as wealth grew, they taxed citizens, and poverty ensued. In North America, Europeans wiped out indigenous populations, and the slave trade replaced their lost labor. The lives of average individuals seemed to decline as the empires as a whole grew.

I characterized the early modern period as the transition of various routes of exchange from regional to global. A major turning point in this process was the consolidation of China's many taxes into one, which demanded payment solely with the use of silver. Caused both by the failure of paper money in the state as well as the discovery of massive silver deposits in Bolivia and Japan, China's decision impacted the world over. Europe could now purchase Chinese goods, therefore bridging the gap between Asian and European economies and paving the way for an increasingly interconnected or "modern" world that we live in today.

These are examples of causation and slavery ended up leading to long term oppression. All of these long and short term affects happened because of Eurasia and Asian developments and proto-globalization.

The Early Modern Period was transitional. It was early in the respect of traditional agriculture still dominating the most advanced economies. It was modern in the sense of renewed emphasis on political structure. The transitions of this period include the silver trade making the first truly global trade network by connecting the Americas to Asia. It also marked the end of pastoralized nomads as competitors to settled agricultural civilizations and as a player on the historical stage.

The early modern period was characterized by the interconnectedness of the world, the sudden growth and expansion that came with that, and the new identities groups of people created for themselves. The silk road and maritime trade made regions far apart dependent on each other, and empires like the Mongols defined the area by forcing certain groups to advance militarily and economically to survive. The world became compressed, and global powers from many different regions, China, Western Europe, Ottomans, came in direct contact with one another and competed for power. Da Gama’s voyage from Portugal to the West Indies was an inflection point because it brought European powers in contact with East Asians, opening up many opportunities for future powerhouses like England, France, and the Netherlands.
