Three children named Lucia, Fransisco and Jacinta Dos Santos all had the same vision of a woman standing on a cloud in an evergreen tree in May 1917, Fatima. Only Lucia and Jacinta heard the woman speak and she told them to return to the tree on the 13th of every month up until October. On the 13th of October thousands of people gathered at the tree. They experiences a solar phenomenon, only the children could see the woman and she called herself “Our Lady of the Rosary”. She asked that they the children pray the rosary every day and that they build a chapel on the site of where the apparitions took place. The witnesses were the three children (Lucia, Fransisco and Jacinta) and also the thousands of people that witnessed the solar phenomenon. Lucia spoke further about the apparitions in the 1930’s and 1940’s. This year (2017) is the 100th Anniversary of the Our Lady of Fatima; Marian Apparition. On the 13th of October thousands of people gather in Fatima, pray the rosary and reflect on what happened that day 100 years ago as a sign that God is not dead.

Part B - Task 2: Ruth Diary Entry

Dear Diary,

Today I stayed with Naomi again, she’s been looking after my son Obed, there’s so much to do here at the fields. My husband Boaz has been away for a while. He’s gone to Nazareth to gather supplies for the upcoming winter season, mainly wood. That’s what we usually use for winter because we have a little fireplace in our house. In a way, it’s been kind of lonely even though Naomi’s here with me. It’s probably because I don’t have my husband with me all the time watching me when I work. He’s so proud of me, when I work. That’s when he first saw me, I was working away in his fields. Anyways i’m going off topic now. This morning all I had was a little piece of bread. We can’t afford much ever since my husband lost it all. That’s a different story for another day though, I wish i could give my son more to eat seeing as he’s a growing boy and still so young. We do what we can though. Boaz skipped breakfast this morning so he could leave some for dinner and for the next couple of days. He works so much, I don’t know where he gets his energy from. All I know is that he’s a strong man and he will do anything for his family. Naomi is pretty much part of family too. She lives with us, she eats with us, she works with us and she prays with us. As a matter of fact, the other day she collapsed for working too much. She’s an old lady and she does what she can. I promise to always stay by her side till the very end. I think all this working is getting to my head I should stop writing now. Ruth, signing out.

Part B - Task 3: Mary vs Aus Refugees

Whenever refugees come to Australia seeking refuge they usually think that they’ll be mingling in with the public right of the boat, that’s not the case though. They get put in detention centres and have to wait for months or even years to find out whether they’ll get sent back their country or be allowed to be part of the Australian community. For Mary and Joseph also fled somewhere else, but in their case they were running away from King Herod who wanted to kill all the babies (similar to war/persecution in other countries).

Mary showed trust in Joseph, Faith in God, Patience for the long way there + giving birth and Perseverance for not giving up. I can demonstrate these qualities in my life by finding the right people to be around, trusting them, having faith in God, being patient for anything I need to be patient for and persevering in anything I do.
