The first theme that came to my mind was whisper. The first impression this word gave me was that there were a lot of people talking in low voices, and the voices were so blurry that I couldn’t hear them clearly. This feeling made me feel a little uncomfortable, as if many people were talking to each other. There is a lot of discussion about an incident that has a negative impact.

This will create a strange feeling for people. A very weird illusion: the person’s feet in the video can rotate 360°. This video should be set to loop.

This is my initial idea for the whisper theme, but now I have doubts about whether this idea can be implemented, because I need to shoot two different sets of stop-motion animations and combine them together, and I don't know how to do this yet. The effect will be good, but it can be predicted that this will be a very, very time-consuming project. So I was thinking about whether there are other better ways to perform the same theme.

A clay stop-motion animation that hasn’t gone through post-production yet

This week we tried to make a stop-motion animation out of clay, and the animation was very simple, just one person peeling an orange and eating it. But in fact, we had a lot of problems during the shooting. Let's say when the orange comes out, we want it to roll in, which is very good to do, but it's not. Because the shape of the orange is flat and round, there are many poses that cannot be photographed in a fixed situation by itself. At the beginning, we planned to use our fingers directly as support, hoping to use PS to solve the rest of the problems later. But when watching the creation videos of other creators, we found that we could fix the props on the table with wire and a small amount of clay, which greatly reduced the pressure on our post-production.

This is the clay stop motion animation that I plan to reference. I'm a little embarrassed to say that the main reason I chose this video is that it is relatively easy to complete. The theme I wanted to do was 'sob' and it was too difficult for me to create a complete scene with a crying person. So I'm going to reference a certain vibe of this video. After trying to make my first clay stop-motion animation, I found that clay is a very easy material to produce effects. Even very subtle changes can be shot very vividly, so I wanted to focus this animation on expression. On the material of clay.

I roughly imagined what kind of effect I wanted to achieve: the blue clay gathered together like raindrops, forming a small figure (three-dimensional) that kept melting. Finally, it turned into a puddle of water, and the water surface rippled and Paired with audio of someone quietly crying. The general effect of the villain is shown in the picture above.

This week we learned how to create stop-motion animation by referring to the movements of motion capture actors. This was also the first time we used puppet to complete animation. I think this work is much more difficult than I thought, because the joints and limbs of the doll are very small and fragile. For us, a very small change will make a big difference in the visual effect of the work. I'm not particularly satisfied with this work. I hope I can perform better than this time in ica's mission production.

The inspiration for "buzz" comes from the mosquitoes I encountered when I first came to the UK. Mosquitoes in my hometown are generally relatively small, but some mosquitoes are particularly poisonous and will be extremely itchy after being bitten. The mosquitoes in the UK are different. They are usually very big. When I first saw the mosquitoes in the UK, I thought: "Oh my God, the mouth of this mosquito is longer than a hospital needle!" And I didn't know that at the time. This kind of mosquito actually does not suck blood, so it is very scary before going to bed. And it is well known that mosquitoes are a particularly annoying insect. As soon as you turn off the light, they will buzz and flap their wings in your ears, but they usually cannot be hit by random flapping. When we turn on the light, they will It disappears again, which is very annoying. I just wanted to make a simple stop-motion animation to express this feeling.

This is the edited version of Buzz. I quite like this idea. After watching it, I will have a feeling of: "Ah, it's a mosquito. Everyone has this experience." But I think the rhythm of this video is The control is not very good, at least I feel a little uncomfortable, but I think this may be a problem that has already occurred during the shooting. After that, I hope to systematically learn how to control the rhythm of animated videos.

The video ended with a combination of hand-drawn and paper-cut finishes. In the front part of the plate, I used a frame-by-frame animation to draw each frame, because the part where the two mouths overlap cannot be done with paper cuts, and the second half I used paper cutouts to complete, there are a total of five colored mouths, each mouth has six different deformations, because I consider that this part of the mouth changes very quickly, and if I don't make more changes, it will make the picture look stuck. I was expecting to fill my mouth with images, but I couldn't do it because of the amount of work, which is a pity, but in terms of overall effect, I wanted to convey the dark and terrifying atmosphere.

So I did it, like my hand was magical, creating some noisy mouths.

At the end of the 10-week stop-motion course, I felt like I had a better understanding of the expression. Actually, for me, this kind of short-term project, I am more good at some inspirational ideas, rather than using mind maps to conceive, but I think no matter what form it takes, what we have to do is the same: express what we think is interesting or strong emotions to the audience. In the rest of the day, I want to try to do some longer stop-motion animations, preferably to tell a story.
