         <title>Roman monarchy</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Romulus was the first Roman king. He was was the chief of the army and chief judge of legal matters. He ruled 753BCE to 717BCE. He conquered nearby cities and land for Roman territory. Roman kings wore a ‘crown’ of laurel leaves around their heads instead of metal crowns. The Roman monarchy had a senate to advise the king but the king could of course ignore their advice. Roman kings eventually became corrupt and the last one was denied entry to Rome and the Roman Republic was born.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Roman republic was led by three groups, the Assemblies, Senate and Consuls. The republic lasted for 482 years but was ended when Julius Caesar wanted to be consul and didn’t disband his army before causing a civil war which ended with him a dictator (person with complete power over everything) for life.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Senate was made of patricians who were the high rich class of Rome; the senators were not voted for but instead, were chosen. The Senate approved or disapproved of laws made by the Assemblies and did other things like, controlling the governments spending and public works, maintained towns and cities, advised consuls, gave advice to government officials and could suggest new laws. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Legislative Assembly was made up of Assemblies and councils including the Assembly of centuries who could make decisions to do with war, the Plebian council and the Assembly of Tribes who couldn’t make decisions to do with war. The Assemblies were plebeians or lower class citizens who made laws much like Australia’s House of Representatives. The Legislative Assembly could and had the power to,</div><ul><li>Make the final say about new laws, court verdicts, punishments, declarations of war and relations with non-Romans.</li><li>Conduct the census (survey about the population).Choose the new consuls.</li></ul><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
