Saul of Tarsus’ conversion was very significant as his original job was to hunt and slaughter Christians. Jesus appeared to him, and he was blinded for three days. He changed his name to Paul, left his wealth and old life to become a Christian, spreading the Word of God. He was a powerful symbol.

Pauls 1st journey:

Paul’s first journey through 46-48 AD was the shortest, lasting 18 months, and it was also his most meaningful. It was difficult, making his commitment to God stronger. All the places he went to were new to the religion and he faced harassment and risked imprisonment or even death. Even so, he still had several followers at the end and inspired others to spread the word. This made his next journeys easier to convert others.

St Paul had many cultural challenges he had to face on his many journeys. The main cultural challenge would have been that they were worshipping a different god so he would have had to adapt the way he spread the word so he wouldn’t offend anyone. Another thing that would have been a cultural challenge was the normalisation of bread and wine. For him it would have been a sacred thing that you would eat together in a ceremony however, in other places it was a normal snack for wealthy people in the area.

God wants everyone to be different in their own way but to also always believe in God as he created everyone. This would mean the church would not be uniform but it would have lots of diversity in it. This would mean people from all over the world could believe in the Lord no matter would they look like or where they came from. This could be applied in today’s society to the LGBTQ+ community because they’re all different and even if you aren’t apart of the group, you could still support it.

Paul wrote letters to tell churches that they should follow in Jesus’s footsteps by living like a Christian. They were a guide on how to follow Jesus’s word and the rules of Christianity. For example, he said if you want to be protected by Jesus, you must believe he is our saviour; and that you must praise the Lord regularly.

Paul the Apostle (about 4BC – 62-64AD) lived in the time of the Roman Empire (27BC-476AD). Rome ruled over an area we now know as Italy, Spain and France. Rome, Alexandria, Antioch and Ephesus were the main cities of Ancient Rome and Spain, France and Egypt were main regions of this time. Rome controlled much of the ancient world due to their high advancement in technology, which helped them to win wars, trade in and out of Empire, and improved the standard of living of citizens. Water was transported by pipes that were made out of clay and built into the ground. This made it easier for public baths and taps to have water. The main languages in ancient Rome were Greek and Latin. Society was rigidly divided into different social classes. Only a Roman citizen could own a house, while foreigners or those who believed in a different religion lived as slaves. Even the way people would get around depended on their wealth: The wealthiest, equestrians and plebeians, rode horses and carriages, freedmen and soldiers rode horses, and slaves would walk or use a wheel.
Ellie.
