It is amazing how I was able to see the depth of each painting, where there is a foreground, middle ground, and background in the pieces. I learned here that the painters such as Raphael, put details in their painting to represent the location of their subject and even showing part of how it looks like outside that room. It was very interesting to see the different lines and shadows that appear to make the painting more realistic and more alive to perfectly capture the important event that the painting was based on. Recently, I learned that the depiction of the numerous 'Mother and Child' paintings by Da Vinci and Raphael are similar. It was discussed in class how Mary, no matter how beautiful and how she stands out in the painting, she is painted with her eyes looking down on Jesus so that the people who are viewing the painting will be able to focus their eyes on the child and show an emphasis on the humanity of Christ. In my opinion, it was the most common form of art because it is easier for people to have the materials and the means to paint and draw. What interests me about painting is that there are many techniques and many types of paint that one can use in order for them to create a piece of their own. In painting, the most common subjects that I see are portraits and landscapes and it amazes me because once paint is added to the canvas, this canvas comes alive. I also know about abstract paintings which have a deeper meaning or sometimes no meaning at all. If we had more time, I wanted to learn more about the whole process a painter goes through from purchasing his materials such as the paint and canvas, to the conceptualization, up to the viewing or the putting up of the piece in the museum. I also want to learn more about abstract paintings that are globally known or even just abstract art that is from the Philippines. Also, it would be interesting to learn about different Filipino painters and their most famous works.
