Has there ever been a moment when someone’s assumptions about your identity didn’t match who you feel you are? How did you react?

Being a queer person is not something easy at any age but in the teen years I´d say its more difficult because of dealing with school, a social life, family and on top of that, being in the process of discovering yourself. Being straight is the accepted concept by the majority of society/ families so when my parents talked to me about my "desired marriage" with a man, firstly I felt uncomfortable with this idea, I stayed in silence and then proceeded to tell them this wasn't in my life plans without any details, the topic of the conversation changed rapidly.

In what ways can focusing on only one identity category hide important parts of a person's experience? Give an example.

If we focus in only one identity category of a person's identity we don't get to know their full background/personal history. Yes, for example, its important for me to tell you I am Vegan but that is not all I am, if we focus on only one part we can't get to know the person in a more meaningful way. Not only eating habits matter but my gender, sexuality, religion, clothing tastes, the role I play in my family, etc. Focusing on more than one category of identity is important to get to know a person in a more complete way which is not possible if we focus on only one thing.

How necessary do you think activism is for achieving social change?

Activism is necessary to achieve social change because most of the time it is what unites people through aspects of identity with a sense of belonging. In Mexico, a country where people are often silenced, the sense of identifying yourself with other people's ideas and circumstances is what motivates humans to continue the fight for justice, raise their voice, reach visibility or another goal they have. With activism, change is more reachable than if only one person wanted to reach an specific goal, with this I am not saying that change could be impossible without activism but it is a really important fact for some goal to be reached, for people to be heard and to make the problematic visible among society, without this, change would last longer to be reached but it would not be super impossible.

What message do you think this U2 song is trying to share about culture, identity, or human experience? Why do you think it matters?

The message this U2 song is sharing to us is that there has always been persecution, most of the time to innocent people. The song talks in a explicit way about blood, blood that belongs to normal citizens like us, the message behind all of this is that there has always been and always will be persecution by the government, with the objective of silencing important voices that have opposed ideas to what their interests are and that seen by politicians, we do not matter at all. The objective of the government and military will always be protecting their interests before their people, this message matters because it is something we experience everyday and to make more people conscious that it is not okay, to raise our voice and continue the fight for all of this massive violence to stop.

How do you think globalization influences the way artists from different parts of the world express their ideas and emotions?

Globalization influences the way artists from other parts of the world express because over the years, culture and art styles have been shared over the world therefore artists have had the opportunity to evolve their pieces taking a little of some other country or foreign artist style. Globalization has been an opportunity for artists to share and expand their knowledge to create new things and bring external styles and pieces to their own region for the public to enjoy.
