Dear Nina Moreno,

Hi Mrs. Moreno! I love the character of Maggie Diaz. Her character is very relatable, so I feel like I can be more in the story. I like the conflicts with her friends, especially how they can teach other readers how to fix these kinds of conflicts. As they said a lot in the book, "Communication is key." This book also shows the struggles of a busy family, and having to share a room with your grandma. I enjoyed reading this book because it wasn't too complicated to not understand, but still have some elements that make me have to guess what will happen. Thank you for this book, I hope these things will bring you joy! Sydney Farmer

3/5 stars. This was a good book at the beginning as I was learning about her character, but as the book went on there wasn't any interesting conflict. The only problems were friendships and getting a phone, which is almost every American kid.

The book started with her wanting to be with her friends more, to get a phone and have more freedom. So she gets busy convincing her mom that she is responsible, then she is too busy for her friends, which cause them to be mad at each other and not talk.

The author believes that 7th grade is a good year to try new things and to find what you want to be. Maggie Diaz was starting 7th grade, but she didn't have a phone. She felt very disconnected to her friends, especially because both of her best friends were always busy. She was feeling like everyone had their life together except her. She decides to join the Future leaders club, the agricultural club, and wood-shop club. With all of these new responsibilities, she messed up her priorities. She lost her friendship, and caused her mom to get really mad at her by not responding to her messages on her watch. She realizes how she can't keep up, so she stops doing as much stuff for each club. She fixes her grades, and then joins track. Her sister was the best track runner at her school, so now the two of them can have a closer relationship. When she shows her final report card, with one A, three B's, and only one C, her mom gives her her old phone, and she now can hang out with her friends at the park. She is so happy to have more freedom, and to feel more included with her friends.
