Videos:
1. Sydney Opera House 2021, What is 'White Feminism'? Koa Beck at #AllAboutWomen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M5XdITk1w4
- This video provides insight to Koa Beck's book "White Feminism" and the basis of this term. It is an interview and more of a book reviewing and therefore provides sufficient information for researching the topic. It is not an advertisement and therefore does not inspire my promotional video.

2. HuffPost 2015, Why We Need to Talk About White Feminism
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNdZcegK1lQ
The above clip is informative and provides a basic definition of 'white feminism' and its harmfulness. The audience hears from a diverse group of women and puts into play relative statistics. I have noted that it is vitally important to here from women of colour when approaching this issue as well as white women who create a wave for accountability. This video is to be used as inspiration for my promotional video as it is balanced (good level of confrontation).

3. Jezebel, 2018, An Intro to White Feminism.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2DS2I8KxFA
Jezebels YouTube video does not hold back in shaming the covetous women behind white feminism and highlights the ways in this form of feminism ignores POC issues. It applies colourful animations and visually engaging graphics that may inspire my promo video as well as the harshness of the message. The video not only provides information of current white feminism, but a history of it.

4. This is most likely to communicate their target audience. I too will use images of my target audience. The music is a light-hearted and slightly solemn version of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' and includes many voices and languages. My choice of background music will be similar in style.

Scholarly Articles:
1. Daniels, J 2015, The Trouble with White Feminism: Whiteness, Digital Feminism and the Intersectional Internet, City University of New York.
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2569369
In this article, Jessie Daniels discusses examples of white feminism evident on social media and the internet in general. This is crucial as most young women are exposed to this. Daniels scrutinises the hypocrisy of certain "activists" and addresses racism and white supremacy. This is informal as these prejudices are heightened due to white feminism. I intend to incorporate this information in my video.

2. Liska, S 2015, Talking Back to White Feminism: An Intersectional Review, Huron University College https://ojs.lib.uwo.ca/index.php/lajur/article/view/7244/5923
The above article examines the western views of feminism and the common, sometimes fatal sexism that is prevalent in developing countries. This informs my study as it presents another angle of white feminism in which these feminists leave behind the stories of women in developing communities. This source is helpful as it demonstrates the true harmfulness of white feminism and gives me further understanding.

3. Joseph, G. Lewis J. 1986, Common Differences: Conflicts in Black and White Feminist Perspectives, South End Press
Joseph and Lewis discuss the differences in interest between black and white people when it comes to feminist activism. This is helpful in offering an extensive foundation for my research.

Koa Beck - author of 'White Feminism':
"I define white feminism as an ideology and a very specific approach and strategy toward achieving gender equality that focuses more on individual accumulation, capital and individuality — accruing power without any redistribution or reconsideration of it. And that’s why white feminism overlaps with white supremacy and classism and transphobia, because there’s no analysis of that power and it’s very singular in its execution and goals."
source: Beck, K., 2021, Koa Beck on Dismantling the Persistence of White Feminism [interview], NBC News.

White feminism does more harm than good and completely ignores POC struggles. Whether we choose to be believe it or not, white women are inherently privileged. Sure we experience sexism, however, some white women are not exonerated when it comes to "perpetuating white supremacy and ultimately benefitting from people of colour's oppression" (Hoskin, 2021). For over a century white women have been the figureheads of feminism whilst women of colour suffer in the background.
IT IS TIME FOR US WHITE WOMEN TO STEP ASIDE AND LISTEN.
source: Hoskin, M.N., 2021, Dear White Women: Are You Abusing Your Racial Privilege?, Forbes.

We often hear about the gender pay gap. But what about the race pay gap?
The above study from the Center for American Progress found that the largest pay gap is experienced by Hispanic women (57 cents for every $1 earned by white, non-Hispanic men in 2020), black women earned just 64 cents for every $1 earned by white, non-Hispanic men in 2020 whilst white, non-Hispanic women, earned 15 cents more than this (79 cents to $1).
The study also found that there were three main factors that caused the pay gap for women of colour; Jobs worked, hours worked and discrimination.
The types of jobs worked by these women were predominantly domestic work, service and care which are historically low paying jobs that are often labelled "women's work". Therefore, occupational segregation is in play -working certain jobs due to gender and racial expectations (Bleiweis, Frye, Khattar, 2021). Discrimination can directly and indirectly effect women of colour's ability to earn money. These women are faced with numerous biases when looking to be employed and welcomed by an industry, according to their gender, race, ethnicity, motherhood status and immigration status.
source: Bleiweis, R., Frye, J., Khattar, R., 2021, Women of Colour and the Wage Gap, Center for American Progress.

In order to do this the video must inform the audience of certain statistics that shed light on the struggles that women of colour have faced for centuries and continue to deal with. The video should elicit a change in the viewer's perspective when it comes to activism. If you're not fighting for all people, you shouldn't fight at all.
Instead of only looking up to feminists such as Taylor Swift and Simone de Beauvoir, the audience should consider figures such as Angela Davis (a prominent leader of the civil rights movement), Maya Angelou (author and Presidential Medal of Freedom winner), Malala Yousafzai, Audre Lorde (an acclaimed black lesbian voice during the civil rights movement), Laverne Cox (Trans actress), Yoko Ono, Beyoncé and Serena Williams.

The following is a basis for the upcoming promotional video:
The promo will begin with an exciting introduction - "there's something happening" - in anticipation of the video's message. Following this will be images of diverse women in order to communicate the point that all women experience misogyny differently and all women's voices should be included in activism. Throughout the video, a call to action is to be expressed with reference to allyship and taking accountability. This will be done by using relevant images such as protests and direct audience address. Feminism through history and the ignorance of white activists will also be included as a basis. I will deliver the videos final message - it's time for us white people to check our privilege, educate ourselves and listen to women of colour - and add a simple finish of a black screen with the words "intersectional feminism" followed by final credits. The video should have a simple and light-hearted instrumental embedded.
