Friendship, in this play, usually escalades into the completely different theme of love, where most of the characters find the perfect partner and get married. Take Viola and Orsino for example. These two characters started out with completely different mindsets and intentions, with Viola in need for money and a sustained life and Orsino in need for love from the Countess Olivia. As the play continued, the two of them began to connect and become close friends, even though Viola secretly had a crush on Orsino. Orsino demonstrated friendship towards Viola by trusting her with his most delicate and important job of wooing Olivia for him. Though at the end of the play, when Viola revealed her secret that she is a woman is disguise, Orsino fell in love with her and the two got married. Another example of friendship as a negative is the relationship between Toby and Andrew. These two are examples of fake friendship. Throughout the play we are reminded that the only reason they are friends is because Toby simply wanted money for food and drinks and Andrew was too much of an imbecile to realize it. Despite this, the two of them remain mostly loyal to each other until the very end of the play. Toby attempted to help Andrew get a woman (Still, only so he can stay to pay for the food and drinks) and a steady relationship and Andrew always had a feeling of friendship towards Toby, while being too daft to realize he was being used.
