Through his conversation with Ophelia, he speaks directly to Ophelia, and never speaks about anybody else separately. Due to the intensity at which he is flinging (unfounded) accusations and insults at Ophelia, and the fact that he's gone partially insane, it is unlikely he has full spacial awareness and can tell he's being watched.
