The Apennines were a range of mountains that protected Italy. These mountains were not as rugged as the Greek mountains, so they were easier to cross and they allowed people to cross over. This meant that the people of Italy were more connected and they could communicate. The Etruscan people wanted to take over Rome because these mountains provided them protection from invaders. The mountains were also easy to cross, so an invader could reach them easily. Above Italy were the Alps, which acted as a barrier protect them from Europe invasion.

The Tiber River provided the Roman people with a source of freshwater. It also gave them a connection to the Mediterranean world. The location of Rome gave them enough time to escape if there was a pirate invasion. The Etruscan people might have wanted to take over Rome because of the access to fresh water and the connection to the outside world. Rome was also at a place in the river where people could easily cross, so it became a destination spot for merchants.

The Mediterranean Sea provided very good trade routes for the people of Rome. It also gave them protection. The location of Rome was about 15 miles from the Sea, so oncoming invaders had to travel inland to get to Greece. The Tiber River flowed into the Sea, allowing easy access to Rome. Because Rome was in such a good trading spot, the Etruscan people wanted to take it over.

This is where the city of Rome was built. It was a small triangle of rich, fertile soil on which Rome first began. The left bank of Latium was controlled by Italic tribes, while the right was controlled by the Etruscan's, Eventually, the Etruscan took over all of it.This provided rich, fertile soil for them to grow their crops on making it prime land to live on.
