Firstly, Problem-based learning (PBL) is great for developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. For example, in a biology class, students investigated a local environmental issue, like pollution in a river. They analyzed data and brainstormed solutions together, which made learning more practical and engaging. PBL also helps students work better in teams and communicate their ideas effectively. In a project I saw, engineering students designed a sustainable housing model for a community. They had to research different aspects and present their findings as a group, which improved their teamwork skills. Therefore, PBL makes students ready for the real world and helps them develop skills needed in the workplace such as critical thinking, problem solving, brainstorming and team work.

However, while PPL offers many benefits for students, in 21st century it faces many challenges and drawbacks. This will impact the overall learning experience of the students in a negative way. One of the disadvantages is the traditional ways of examining students in the final exams that do not match with the problems-based learning way of teaching and learning. In addition, students in general have different abilities and some of them cannot perform well with this approach of learning, especially with ill structured problems. Besides, PPL is a time-consuming way of teaching that needs lots of preparations, research and scaffolding to empower the students to achieve the desired goals of learning and challenging to set up. Teachers need to plan carefully to make sure the problems are relevant and match learning goals. Plus, grading can be complex since it's not just about right or wrong answers but also about how well students work through the problem. Therefore, PBL can be burdensome on the teachers' time and can be challenging for assessment.

Overall, while PBL is effective for teaching problem-solving in real-world contexts and boosting teamwork, it requires careful planning and support from teachers to work best. PBL can be implemented in the classroom, but training and curriculum planning needs to be considered in order to create benefits for students and reduce hindrances for teachers.
