Makerspace Storage

I like this because it is flexible, uncluttered, and has lots of storage. This is a "clean slate" for students' imaginations. The closet doors are white boards, which is important for play settings, and it also fits the requirement of not being too "busy" visually.

I also like that there is open floor space, and that there are wheels on the furniture. This allows for easy modification to the configuration depending upon what is happening.

Two things I would change would be the seating options (more flexible seating) and having clear instead of colored bins, so that students could see what is inside.

Library Fun!

Wow - this is beautiful and inviting. Kids love to climb and find cozy spots to read - this would allow for that, and in a visually beautiful environment. I can envision students jumping from flower to flower, walking along the ledges to avoid crocodiles, and crawling through the tunnel.

The only drawback here would be getting the students back out of the space!

Changes I would make would be to add fun elements in and near the bookshelves, so that they are equally inviting!

Flexible Space

I love this layout - it is fun, inviting, clean, and flexible. I can envision teaching here - it has a dedicated space for presenting. I love the variety of seating options - different heights; some are open, some are more closed-off; and there are different materials available as well.

One change I would make would be to include more surfaces for table tops.

Interactive Library Spaces - webinar

This is a longer webinar, but it has some great ideas for utilizing space in a creative way based on needs. I would most likely take bits and pieces of this webinar such as ideas for saving unfinished work, display ideas (such as mystery books wrapped in brown paper), ideas for displaying seasonal books, and so on.

Although this seemed more focused on a public library, it had some great tips for school applications as well.

This is just amazing. I would love to play here! There seem to be so many surfaces for exploring. There are endless opportunities for play and creativity. This library includes a maker area, computer area, and performance areas.

I don't think that there are any changes that I would make to this space!

Here is a description from the website: (https://rosanbosch.com/en/project/childrens-library-billund)

The library offers a curving landscape where visitors can explore playful and fascinating settings. The lava trail of the Volcano leads to a yellow Desert with a Termite Tower ideal for toddlers. A Maker Area gives room to build and construct, and the elevated green Rice Paddies, the grey Island, and the Giant Jellyfish provide new ways to encounter the library's collections of books, music, and movies.

The design fulfils the library's vision of being a performative space that supports the creativity of its users, while additionally being a central venue for concentration, immersion, and visits to Citizen Service Center.

This would be amazing to have as part of a Makerspace. There is no end to what students could learn while tinkering with these components.

This wall would be so much fun to has as a "free time" option in our Makerspace! The only change I would make would be to make it less expensive! However, I am sure some of this could be done without a professional installation.

This is just a bonus entry. Wow, just wow. This school is in the Netherlands, and for children 12 and up (which is outsider of our scope, but makes the point, nevertheless). Here is a partial description of how students learn: " I met students exploring subjects as diverse as German mountain guides, Mongolian horses, blacksmithing, Harry Potter patronuses, tables and skateboards. It is the job of the teacher – who here is called a coach – to challenge and guide that exploration process."
