The ELA connection is made through the various books and videos on YouTube about the weather. The Mathematic connection is searching the classroom for various two-dimensional shapes.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>What instructional delivery method will I utilize?<br></strong>The instructional delivery method I will utilize is the Gradual Release Model.<br>(Teacher) I will read the selected story. In reading the chosen story, the teacher will define preselected vocabulary terms. <br>(Students) Students will identify the relevant details in the story.<br>(Teacher) After identifying relevant details, students will view YouTube videos What Is Rain and How Are Raindrops Formed? <br>(Students) I will identify relevant details in the videos.<br>(Teacher) I will explain the PBL project. Students will be informed that they have to create something to prevent them from getting rained on during recess. <br>(Students) I will ask various questions about the engineering project.<br>(Students) Will identify what two-dimensional shapes will create the best design for their project.<br>(Students) Will gather selected materials to create a waterproof design. Students will then begin to create their designs. <br>(Teacher) I will be walking around answering and asking engineering questions.<br>(Students) Will then test their design or prototype.<br><br><strong>How will I create opportunities for strategic, productive struggle?<br></strong>Students will have to create a waterproof design without a teacher prototype. This design has to prevent them from getting rained on during recess. <br><br><strong>What teacher moves will I use (ex., explicit teacher talk, modeling, providing support based on specific student struggles)?<br></strong>The teacher move I will utilize is providing support based on specific student struggles. Many of my students do not need my assistance. All they need is the instruction(s) and my expectations. I have two students who will need constant support during the engineering process.<br><br><strong>How will I provide opportunities for cooperative learning in my lesson?<br></strong>Students are allowed to partner with other students or work independently.<br><br><strong>Where will students be leading the work?<br></strong>Students will first learn how rain is formed. After learning how rain is formed, students will work (independently or cooperatively)on creating a waterproof design that will prevent them from getting rained on during recess.<br><br><strong>Location<br></strong>My First Graders will see and experience these phases of the design process in our classroom and on the playground<strong>.</strong><br><br><strong>Budget<br></strong>A total of $30 is allotted for this PBL. The materials will be purchased from Walmart. Materials will consist of coffee filters, foil, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, straws, plastic table cloths, glue, tape, a stapler, and playdough. Students can use a variety of materials to create their prototypes.</div>]]></description>

Therefore, I must have various resources at my disposal.<br><br><strong>What do I need to adjust? <br></strong>I will probably have to adjust the length of this PBL engineering project. We are getting ready to start IREADY Reading and Math Testing.<br>&nbsp;<br><strong>What is my plan for implementation with the materials?<br></strong>Students will be shown a pair of rain boots. Students will participate in a simulated experiment with rainboots. By using a bucket they will experience how rainboots keep their feet from getting wet.
