Zhou Dynasty: 1045-256 BCE

The Zhou state expanded or grew into the lands around. The Zhou Dynasty started to use irrigation to water their crops. The Zhou rulers became the kings because they said they had the Mandate of Heaven.

Warring States Period: 700-221 BCE

The warring states were when all of China was at war. The competition between the states was stronger, and armies grew much larger, with professional generals. Trade has expanded, towns and cities have grown, and education has spread.

Confucianism and Daoism Developed: 500 BCE

One of the most important philosophers in world history was Confucius. In this time of change, he called people back to their ancient duties of honor and obedience.

Legalism Developed: 250 BCE

Legalism is also known as the School of Law. Legalism was created by Hanfeizi who believed that humans are pure evil. He believed that humans deserved harsh punishments and strict laws.

Qin Dynasty: 221-210 BCE

Qin was ruled by the Qin Shihuangdi which means the first Qin Emperor. The rulers of the Qin dynasty were the first in China’s history to rule a unified Chinese empire. The Qin Dynasty started to build the Great Wall.

Han Dynasty: 206 BCE-220 CE

The Han Dynasty was founded by Liu Bang who was a farmer that turned into a soldier. The Han Dynasty lasted more than 400 years. He chose dedicated and talented people for civil service. Schools that prepared students for civil service.
