At the meeting the representatives talked about whether to go with the Virginia plan or New Jersey plan. The Virginia plan and New Jersey plan both had 3 branches of government the only difference was that the Virginia plan wanted the representatives to be based on state population and New Jersey wanted all states to only have 1 representatives, no matter the size. They agreed that each state would receive only two senators regardless of population, they would be represented in the House of Representatives by one member per 300,000 citizens.

the north and south and a disagreement on weather the slaves should be counted into population or not. The North didn't want the slaves to be counted as people because they were treated as property and should remain as property. The South wanted all slaves to be counted into state population so they could have more representatives. To please everybody, they came up with the 3/5 compromise, where 3 out of 5 slaves were counted into population, to please both sides.

Both sides, the North and South, argued on who would control the slave trade, the government or the states. Everybody thought that slaves would eventually die down, just as it had been doing in most other parts of the world. So they made a compromise, the agreed upon keeping the slave trade, the same way it is now, then revisiting the topic in 20 years. They had planned for slaves to be did away sooner than later but with the invention of the cotton gin, slaves lasted a lot longer than expected and eventually was abolished after the civil war.
