Reading "Womans Work"

Women do more care work: With schools and childcare centers closed, women have taken on more childcare and housework, especially when working from home. They end up doing more care duties than men.

Traditional roles still apply: Even when both parents work from home, women still do most of the housework and care for the children. Men tend to focus more on work tasks.

Mental load on women: Women not only care for their children but also worry about the emotional well-being of the family. This extra mental load adds stress, especially during a crisis.

What do they think about the information you learned?

I think the information you learned is very important. It’s good that you're becoming aware of the gender inequality that still exists, especially in housework and caregiving. It’s something many people overlook, but it affects daily life deeply.

Is the gender inequality situation true for our society, for our home?

Yes, sadly, gender inequality is still present in our society, and sometimes even in our own home. Often, mothers take on more responsibilities simply because that’s what we’ve been taught, not necessarily because it’s fair.

Is there anything you as a son/daughter can do to ease the burden or reduce the work load?

As a daughter, just noticing this already makes a difference. Helping more around the house, offering to take care of things without being asked, and sharing responsibilities equally.

Reading from "The gender wars of household chores: a feminist comic"

Gendered Expectations in Domestic Roles: The comic portrays how societal norms and expectations assign specific roles to men and women within the household. Women are often expected to take on the majority of domestic tasks, leading to an imbalance in both physical and mental labor.

Women remember everything: Women usually have to remember what needs to be done at home, like shopping, cleaning, or kids’ stuff. Because that is what they are told to do from a young age.

Men wait to be told: Men often do chores only after being asked, instead of noticing what needs to be done themselves.

Share the mental load – In many homes, women do not just clean or cook, they also think about what needs to be done, like planning meals, remembering appointments, or knowing when to clean. This is called the "mental load." Men should help with this too. They should try to notice what needs to be done and plan things, instead of waiting for someone to tell them.

Talk about fairness – Many couples don’t talk about who does the housework. This can make one person feel tired or upset. It’s important to sit down and talk about the chores. They should try to divide the work in a fair way, so one person isn’t doing everything and do not get way too overwhelmed
