         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Polacco, Patricia. (1998). Thank You Mr. Falker.</p><ul><li><p>This book is a story about the author's childhood. She struggled with not being able to read like the other kids in her grade for years. She was bullied day in and day out resulting in her being extremely insecure and even finding herself hiding at recess to escape it. She moved across the country and met a a teacher by the name of Mr. Falker. He recognized her need for help, and began teaching her how to read. She eventually was able to read and understand stories. She is now a well known author due to the help of Mr. Falker. </p></li></ul></li><li><p>Cooper, Floyd. (2013). Max and the Tag-Along Moon. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about a boy named Max who is following the moon. He left his grandpa's house, and watched the moon all the way home. When he got home, he didn't see the moon and got really sad. He fell asleep, but woke up to a bright light outside his window. He realized it was the moon, and very very happy to see it again.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Jordan, Deloris. (2001). Salt in His Shoes. </p><ul><li><p>This book was an autobiography about Michael Jordan written by his mother. He was always smaller than the other kids, and got very upset when he wasn't. His mother encouraged him, told him to pray, and even told him to put salt in his shoes to make himself grow. He started to practice more and more and got better. He went to a game at the park and one person had to shoot the game winning shot, and he decided to go for it. He made it, and ran all the way home to tell his dad. He eventually grew to 6'6" and is now in the NBA.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Bunting, Eve. (1995). Cheyenne Again.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a Native American child who is taken from their family, and land, to be assimilated to the white American lifestyle. The child talks about the different things about them that they had to change about them. There was this one person who came in and told them to remember who they are deep down inside. They are to remember the horse that reminds him who they are deep down inside.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Allsburg, Chris Van. (1991). The Wretched Stone.</p><ul><li><p>This book give an understanding of how much technology can have an affect on people. The stone in the book was like the technology, and when they were around it more and looking at it, it turned them into monkeys. The monkeys represent how we lose parts of us when we are on technology more and more. Once the stone was taken away from them, they went back to normal.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Viorst, Judith. (1972). Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little boy named Alexander who has a terrible day. Nothing in that day was going his way and all he wanted to do was to move to Australia. He ends up with a cavity, with a pair of shoes he didn't want, and was his best friends 3rd best friend. He ends the day realizing that even in Australia, they have bad days too.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Moss, Marissa. (2004). Mighty Jackie.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a girl named Jackie who was a pitcher in the major leagues. She practiced pitching all the time since she was a little girl, and her dad was always so encouraging to her. She pitches against Babe Ruth, and strikes him out. This was based on a true story, and she was no longer able to pitch against men again in the major leagues.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Scieszka, Jon. (1995). The Math Curse. </p><ul><li><p>In this story, the main character wakes up and is stressed about all the math in their life. They are stressing about the time of their day, the amount of steps they take, and so many more things about their day. They go home and after their long math filled day, they go to sleep. They remember that their next unit is science and it begins their next nightmare.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Choi, Yangsook. (2001). The Name Jar. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little girl named Unhei who moved from Korea to the United States. She was made fun of on the bus by the other kids for her name. She told her class by the end of the first day that she would tell them her new, American, name by the end of the week. She was trying out different names but none of them sound right to her. She went to school the next day, and there was a jar of names that her classmates picked out to help her choose her name. Each day she would check the jar, but never found one she liked. She went one day and the jar was missing. The whole class was looking for it, but never found it. There was a slip of paper on her desk with her name on it and it helped her decide what she wanted to be called. She told her class that she wanted to continue to go by Unhei because it means grace. The whole class practiced saying it, and they welcomed her as Unhei.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Levine, Ellen. (2007). Henry's Freedom Box.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a boy named Henry who was born into slavery and worked on a tobacco farm. He mentions that he never knew his real birthday. He was separated from his family and wife and was completely heartbroken. He becomes determined to escape, become free, and to find his family. With the help of some abolitionists, they mail him in a box to free land. He is mailed from Virginia to Pennsylvania where he becomes free and finally gets his birthday, the day he became free. This story was based on the true story of Henry Box Brown, who got his name from being shipped in the box. This shows the determination and hope that slaves on the underground railroad had to become free and escape slavery.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

Magic Tree House #2 The Knight at Dawn.</p><ul><li><p>This novel was about Jack an Annie who wish to go on adventures from the books they read, and are able to go there. They wished to be with knights, and they landed at a castle full of them. They were sneaking around the castle and got caught, but managed to escape because of Annie's "magic wand", a flashlight. They landed in a river and thought they were stuck there forever, but a kind knight got them out and took them back to their tree house. </p></li></ul></li><li><p>Voake, Steve. (2008). Daisy Dawson is on Her Way.</p><ul><li><p>This novel is about a girl named Daisy who has the ability to talk to animals. Her teachers at school are very mean to her and think she is dumb, but she is very smart and intelligent. She meets a dog named boom and later find out he was taken to the animal shelter. She makes it her goal to get him out, and throughout the whole story, she meets friends along the way who help her get him out. She later saves him and gives him a collar saying he belongs to her so he never gets taken away again.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Brown, Steve. (1964) Flat Stanley His Original Adventure!</p><ul><li><p>This novel is about a boy named Stanley who gets squished in the middle of the night and wakes up flat as a board. He goes through life while being flat, but one day the mayor wants his help to catch some criminals. They get him disguised, and after a long time hiding, he catches them. After that, he got tired of being so flat all the time, so his brother blew him back up, and he was back to normal.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Cushman, Karen. (1991). The Midwife's Apprentice. (Newbery Award Winner).</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a girl named "brat" who finds herself getting a job as a midwifes apprentice just for food. The midwife is very rude and names her "beetle". She learns the craft of being a midwife but messes up once and gives up. She begins to practice more and gets confidence, and gets a name of "Alyce". She then finds herself delivering a baby, and is successful at it. She goes back to the midwife and tells her she will do whatever it takes to be her apprentice again, and she opens the door and lets her in.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Lubar, David. (2013). Looniverse Meltdown Madness.</p><ul><li><p>The main character Ed has to sell chocolate bars to be able to raise money to be on the soccer team. He was given a coin that wishes into reality everything he says. This causes a bunch of problems resulting in Ed owing a lot of people money. He then thinks of his mother and something she says, and it helps him solve his problems. He was able to get all the money he needed, plus more, and was able to be on the soccer team.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Edmonds, Walter D. (1941). The Matchlock Gun. (Newbery Award Winner). </p><ul><li><p>The main character, Edward, it determined to protect his family from invasion. Their family has this very old Spanish matchlock gun, and he thinks it is the perfect tool for him. He is very paranoid that people are going to break in to the point that he begins to have dreams about it. His relatives house gets attacked, and he runs in and saves them from the Indian invasion.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Park, Barbara. (1995). Junie B. Jones and the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about Junie B. and how she is determined to win all the prizes at the school event. She practices at home and feels prepared for the games. When she gets there, she loses every single game that she plays. She is very sad, but enters a cake walks and wins a fruitcake, and gets sad again because it is disgusting.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Pilkey, Dav. (1999). Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets.</p><ul><li><p>George and Harold are terrible students in their school and their principal hates them. They got detention and wrote a comic book with talking toilets that ended up attacking everyone that ended up coming to life. They were all in danger, but their principal turned into Captain Underpants and ended up saving everyone. He quickly turned back into the principal, and was in his underwear and so embarrassed.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Lowry, Lois. (1993). The Giver. (Newbery Winner).</p><ul><li><p>The main character, Jonas, lives in a town where it is perfect because no ones fights and everything goes how they want it to. The town has no memories of anything, but on his 12th birthday, he is gifted with the ability to have everyones memories. The Giver is the one who gives Jonas all these memories, and he quickly realized how terrible it is knowing all this stuff but no one else does. At the end, Jonas ends up leaving with his little brother Gabriel because he cannot take it anymore.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Tarshis, Lauren. (2020). I Survived The California Wildfires, 2018. </p><ul><li><p>The main character, Josh's, dad was arrested, so him and his mom went to California to get away for a little bit. He found out that his dad was going to be arrested for 8 months, so he ran away into the woods. His cousin, Holly, came after him, and they got caught into a giant wildfire. They were saved by some family friends, and there was a lot of healing. After a few week, Josh was able to go home to New Jersey.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Kinney, Jeff. (2012). Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Third Wheel.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about Greg and how he is determined to get a date for the school dance coming up. There are more guys than girls at his school, so it is harder for him to get a date. Him and his friend Rowley end up without a date, so they as a girl named Abigail to go with them as a group. Rowely ends up with chicken pox, so Greg things he has a chance with her, but he just ends up being a third wheel and ends up getting chicken pox.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Stine, R.L. (1997). Goosebumps Beware, The Snowman.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a girl named Jaclyn who moves to a new town with her Aunt Greta. She meets a brother and a sister and they tell her about the snowman at the top of the mountain who is scary. She sneaks past a weird man named Conrad, and goes to find the snowman. When she finds him, he begs her to finish the spell to free him, but he ends up being a monster. The monster tries to kill them, but all the snowmen in the town save them. Conrad ends up being her dad, and saves them and the town from this monster.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Barrows, Annie. (2007). Ivy and Bean Break the Fossil Record.</p><ul><li><p>In this story, Bean's teacher gives her a book on people who broke world records. She shows her whole class, and they were all determined to break a record to be in the book. Ivy and Bean ran out of ideas, so they decided to look for dinosaur bones in their back yard, and fine some bones. They invite the whole school over, and say they are mystery bones, but she broke the world record for biggest playdate.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Kinney, Jeff. (2018). Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Meltdown.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a boy named Greg who is living in the middle of winter in his freezing cold town. The children in the town hate the children who are not from their neighborhood. The street that Greg lives on is split into two different sides and they end up having a battle. Greg's side ends up winning and the other kids leave them alone. The snow ends up melting, and the school goes back in for session and they live as winners.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Kinney, Jeff. (2021). Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories. </p><ul><li><p>This book is written from the perspective of Rowley Jefferson, who is Greg Heffley's best friend. The stories in the book are super silly, but it also shows the background of people like Frankenstein and the Headless Horseman. Each small story in the book has a great, scary, climax, but ends in a silly way so that younger readers wouldn't be scared. It end with a personal story from Rowley and how him and Greg aren't allowed to have sleepovers anymore.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Tarshis, Lauren. (2019). I Survived the Battle of D-Day, 1944.</p><ul><li><p>Paul is a french boy who is living in the middle of WW2. He hears a voice and it is a man who is a part of the allied powers who needs help. They are about to get caught and head to a castle to hide because no one would go there. He finds a lot of people he knows and it becomes a hideaway camp. D-Day happen, and he survives and lives the rest of his life and rekindles a relationship with a friend he thought had died by Hitler.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Stine, R.L. (1997). Goosebumps Don't Go To Sleep!</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a boy named Matt who hates his room and his siblings. He wishes that he can have a bigger room and a different life, and he does. He gets in a time warp, and lives as a monster, an old man, a chubby kid, and more things. The story ends with him finally getting sleep in his old room and his mom surprises him with a birthday present of a new room, the one with the time warp.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Osborne, Mary Pope. (1998). Magic Tree House #12. Polar Bears Past Bedtime. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about Jack and Annie and how they go to the Arctic for a night. While they are there, they meet  an Eskimo and he helps them answer their riddle. They find some polar bear cubs and later find the mother and learn to blend in with them. They solve the riddle with the answer being "home" and they are able to travel home, back to the tree house in Frog Creek.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

Goldilocks and the Three Bears.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little girl who sneaks into a family of bears' cabin while they are gone. She first goes and tries their food, then sits in their chairs, and then sleeps in their bed. The bears come home and are angry to find that their things have been messed with. After inspecting everything, they find Goldilocks sleeping in their bed. She was startled awake to find the bears standing over her, and she runs out of the house.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Lester, Julius. (1994). John Henry. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about a man named John Henry who was born gigantic and extra strong. His whole life he was able to help people out by using his strength. One day the town was trying to build a road through a mountain and he wanted to help. They laughed at him and told him he wouldn't be able to do it, but he made it twice as far as the machine. Soon after finishing, he passed away from a heart attack, and his body was buried in front of the White House. It is rumored that you can still hear him singing late at night.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Hader, Berta and Elmer. (1874). The Little Red Hen.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a hen, a cat, and a frog. The hen works her tail off and gets angry that the frog and cat don't help, so she ran away. She was kidnapped by a fox, but managed to escape. She ran back to the house, and the frog and cat decided that they would never be lazy again, and help out as much as possible.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Mosel, Arlene. (1968). Tikki Tikki Tembo.</p><ul><li><p>This book explains a tale on why the Chinese name their children with short names. The older child was named Tikki Tikki Tembo.... and the younger one was named Chang. Both fell into a well, but it took Tikki Tikki Tembo longer to get out than Chang since his name was so long. There was an old man who was there to save them with his ladder every single time.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Cooney, Barbara. (1958). Chanticleer and the Fox.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a rooster who was loved by everyone and who had an amazing voice. One day a fox came and flirted with the rooster to try and kidnap him. It worked, and the fox had him by the neck. The rooster managed to get away and learned to not trust animals or people who are flirting with him.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>The Clever Factory. (2022). Landforms and Weather.</p><ul><li><p>This book gives 20 examples of different types of landforms and different types of weather. Some of the landforms that were included were mountains, valleys, and places in the ocean. Some examples of weather that was included was tornados, hurricanes, and tsunamis. My favorite was at the end of the book it showed a rainbow and taught the different colors of it, and how they were made.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Stevens, Gareth. (2005). Welcome to my Country: Welcome to Bangladesh.</p><ul><li><p>This book told about every aspect of Bangladesh. This country is one of the poorest countries in the world, but they live their lives making the best of it. Bangladesh never experiences a winter or fall. It is always hot or humid. The official language of this country is Bangla, but there are over 40 different ones that are spoke there.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Jenkins, Steve. (2009). Never Smile at a Monkey.</p><ul><li><p>This book talked about different animals that were very dangerous and could kill people. The animals were able to attack people or poison them to kill them. A lot of animals used it as a form of protection to them, and they used it when they feel threatened. Some examples of the animals are monkeys, stingrays, and some snakes.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Macken, JoAnn Early. (2003). People in My Community Teacher.</p><ul><li><p>This book taught about a few things that teachers do. It explained that teachers not only teach the children material but also some life skills as well. It showed how they are responsible for making lesson plans and teaching different types of learners. It explained that many teachers have to take their work home with them.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Adamson, Heather. (2004). A Day in the Life of a Child Care Worker. </p><ul><li><p>This book explained what a day in the life of a child care worker was like. Children were dropped of very early at the woman's house, and she watched them all day. It explained that she was responsible for making sure that each child was taken care of and fed as well. She was responsible for doing the math and making the bills for the parents of the children in her day care.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Micklos Jr., John. (2021). Raindrops To Rainbow.</p><ul><li><p>This book is written in an "AA, BB" rhyme pattern. It gives a look at a girls life and feelings while it is raining, while also showing different colors. The story begins sad and gloomy, but shows that at the end of a storm there is a rainbow. This book could help give children who are fearful of storms a sense of peace while reading it.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Kvasnosky, Laura McGee. (2021). Ocean Lullaby. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about a mother who is singing her child a lullaby to put them to sleep. This book is filled with lots of figurative language, including things like personification. This book is in a rhyme scheme and teaches the reader about the different animals in the ocean. The book is written in English and Spanish, so readers of different ethnic background can read it.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Silverstein, Shel. (1964). A Giraffe and a Half.</p><ul><li><p>This book has a lot of plays on words. It rhymes words like "toot" and "flute", and "whale" and "tale". The books doesn't necessarily make sense, because a giraffe is cover in so many things, but it is a fun read for lots of children. The giraffe ends up being covered in 13 different things, and then it begins counting back down until only the giraffe is left.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Locker, Thomas. (1997). Water Dance.</p><ul><li><p>This book talked about different phases in the water cycle in poetry form. Each page was a poem consisting of four lines and ending with the part of the water cycle saying "I am...". Different examples mentioned were rivers, rain, storms, and more. The book began with the rain and ended with the rainbow.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Young, Jody. (2006). R is for Rhyme.</p><ul><li><p>This book gave different examples of poetry for all the letters of the alphabet. On each page, it had an example of a poem, and information about the type of poetry. Some examples mentioned in the book were a jingle, picture poem, metaphor, and more. My favorite example was a Haiku, because of the pattern it is written in.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Bains, Rae. (1985). Abraham Lincoln.</p><ul><li><p>This book told the story about how Lincoln grew up and how he ended up changing different things in America. He grew up very poor, and had a sibling. He worked his way up in the government until he became president. He did a lot of different things that helped free slaves, but was sadly shot and killed at a play.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Aliki. (1964). The Story of William Penn.</p><ul><li><p>William Penn was from England, and came on a ship to America. He was responsible for naming and creating the state, Pennsylvania. Many people in the state were hesitant for him to come since they had very bad experiences with newcomers before, but he was different. He loved on and treated the Native Americans as best as he could and built relationships with them.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Trumbauer, Lisa. (2004). Paul Revere.</p><ul><li><p>Paul Revere was a very well known man during the American Revolution. He was responsible for letting the people know that the British were coming, and helped save them during the war. He rode into town on a horse saying "the British are coming, the British are coming".  He has a statue in Boston to remember how great of a leader he was during the war. </p></li></ul></li><li><p>McKissack, Patricia and Fredrick. (2002). Sojourner Truth a Voice for Freedom.</p><ul><li><p>Sojourner Truth's name was not this, her name was Isabella Baumfree. She was an incredible speaker who motivated people all around the United States. She was a slave, and all of her children were born into slavery, but it didn't stop her from pushing on. She met with Abraham Lincoln, and was a very good friend of his, and when he died, she mourned a lot.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Marks, Jennifer L. (2009). President Barack Obama.</p><ul><li><p>Obama was the 44th president of the United States and was a part of the democratic party. He was born in Hawaii, and lived for a lot of his childhood in Indonesia. He moved back to go to Harvard Law and later become our president. He made history by becoming the first black president that the United States had ever had.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Freeman, Don. (1968). Corduroy.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a stuffed bear named Corduroy who lives on the shelf of a department store. A child wants to take him home, but the mother doesn't allow it since he is missing a button. Corduroy gets sad and goes on a search for a button so he can be loved by someone. While searching he gets caught, and goes back on the shelf. He is later bought and loved by a little girl and he lives happily in her bedroom.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Piper, Watty. (1930) The Little Engine That Could. </p><ul><li><p>This book is full of talking trains, toys, and animals. One train broke down and needed help to get to the other side of the mountain. The toys and animals stopped every train that came by to see if they would help pull them over the mountain, and every one of them had an excuse to not help them. They were about to completely give up, but a little blue engine rode by and they asked him if he would help them. He was very insecure, but gave it a try. He gave himself encouragement the whole way up, and eventually was able to help the train, toys, and animals over the mountain.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Numeroff, Laura Joffe. (1985). The Saint Bernard had been a friend of Santa and the elves for a very long time, and he was ready to go out with all the boys and girls. Each year, the dog goes out and collects the magic of love and kindness of all the children. He then goes back to Santa and gives it to him, and the more magic he collects, the more Christmas magic there will be for all the kids.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Bugbird, Tim. (2014). Molly the Muffin Fairy. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little fairy named Molly who had a bad temper. She was baking muffins one day, but they didn't turn out how she wanted them. She began to throw the bad muffins and it caused chaos. She made animals go crazy, she flooded her street, and she destroyed her living room. She used the muffins to soak up the water, and used the giant muffins as a trampoline to jump on. She proved that anything bad can turn out good. </p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

Luke was a little boy who dreamed of playing baseball like Robinson. He was younger than everyone, so he never got the opportunity to play with the older kids, and when he did, all he would do was strike out. His grandmother surprised him with tickets to see Robinson play, and it showed him that even the pros struggle sometime. Robinson hit a ball out of the park and Luke found that when he went home, the ball was on his roof.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Wisniewski, David. (1991). Rain Player.</p><ul><li><p>This book takes place during the Mayan civilization time with all their gods. The main character, Pik, wanted to play pok-a-tok with one of the gods. Everyone was worried for him to play with the god, so they helped him prepare for it. They ended up playing the game, and Pik ended up winning and becoming ruler.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Bangs, Edward. (1976). Yankee Doodle.</p><ul><li><p>This book takes place during the American Revolution. Yankee Doodle was character during that time that they said chased the Redcoats. How Many Days to America? A Thanksgiving Story. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about a family who had to drop everything and move to America. They were a family just like the ones back during the New World time. There were many who got very sick and there were some who never made it to America. This family made it to America, and they were able to live there and start a new life.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Gottesfeld, Jeff. (2021). Twenty-One Steps.</p><ul><li><p>This book is written as if an unknown soldier was speaking about their time in war and death. He is tells the different details about the tomb of the unknown soldiers and what all goes into it. He said that he died in a war in 1942, and he was deemed unknown. This book is written with rhyme, so it is catchy and flows very well. The story ends with the parents trying the healthy food and liking it.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Keats, Ezra Jack. (1962). The Snowy Day.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little boy named Peter who wakes up and is able to experience his first snow day. He goes outside and has the best experience making snowmen and snow angels, sliding down the big snowy hill, and a bunch of other things. When the long day was over, he had to go inside and go to sleep. While he was sleeping, he had a terrible dream that all the snow had melted away. When he woke up, he was very sad, but quickly went outside and saw that the snow was still there. He went and got his friend, and they got to play in the snow together and the story ends.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Castillo, Lauren. (2014). Nana in the City.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a grandchild who goes to visit their Nana in the city. They are very scared at first because it is full of the unknown with loud sounds and lots of people. The nana works all night to make a cape for the child to wear to make them brave. The next morning, she gave them the cape, and he was braver and enjoyed the city. </p></li></ul></li><li><p>Patrick, Denise Lewis. (1993). The Car Washing Street.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little boy named Matthew who loves to wake up early and watch everyone wash their cars. His family doesn't own one, but he still likes to go outside and watch everyone wash theirs. This day, someone spilled water on someone else, and it started a water fight, and Matthew loves every bit of it. This fight helped the community bond together, and helped remind Matthew why he loves living on "the car washing street.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>McQuinn, Anna. (2006). Lola at the Library. </p><ul><li><p>Every Tuesday Lola's mom takes her to the library to return and check out books. Lola always has an amazing time, and she loves being able to go to the children's section to look at the books. After they check out, they always go for a treat after, and she gets to enjoy some juice. At night, Lola's mom always reads her one of the books that they checked out at the library.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

The animals are trying to get along with each other, even though it is really hard for them. This book shows how to use manners and teaches little kids phrases like "I'm sorry" and "please". The animals represent humans in the sense that humans have to learn to be respectful towards other, even if they aren't like them.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Carle, Eric. (2021). The Very Hungry Caterpillar Eats Breakfast.</p><ul><li><p>This book teaches young children how to count using visual images and tactile ones. The pages have holes in them to act as if the caterpillar is eating through the food on the pages. The physical holes on the page show how many different foods there are being shown. The book makes it all the way to the caterpillar eating 10 different things, and he is done.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Parton, Dolly (2009). I Am A Rainbow. </p><ul><li><p>This book teaches children to associate colors with feelings. For example, blue is sad and red is mad. This book was great for younger children to learn to regulate their feelings. This gave an example of a feeling for every color of the rainbow plus more.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Kann, Victoria. (2013). Pinkalicious Puptastic!</p><ul><li><p>In this book, Pinkalicious was very excited to be able to take care of a dog for her neighbor. The dog's name is Pinky and she was very disappointed to find out she wasn't pink. Pinky didn't like her at first, but after Pinkalicious accidentally dyed her pink, she loved her. The neighbors weren't mad, they were just very happy that Pinky ended up loving her.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Willems, Mo. (2013). A Big Guy Took My Ball!</p><ul><li><p>Piggie was very upset that a big guy ended up taking her giant ball that she was playing with. Gerald said that he would go get it back for her, but was shocked at how big the whale was, and ended up not getting it for her. The whale came and thanked them for the ball, but was very sad that no one would play with him since he was so big. The scarecrow in this story was always so lonely, and none of the crows wanted to be around him, because they were scared of him. One day a baby crow fell right in front of him and he picked it up and took care of him. When the crow was all grown up, it flew aways, and the scarecrow was lonely and sad again. One day the crow came back and laid eggs in the scarecrows pocket, and he was able to make new friends with the new birds.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Davis, Catherine Garrison. (2015). Night-Night, Little Tiger.</p><ul><li><p>This book takes place a Clemson University. The little tiger is being tucked in by their parent and they are saying goodnight to all the different places and thing on the Clemson University campus. This book is great to teach young children the different places around the school. By the end of the story, the little tiger had said goodnight to everything at Clemson, and was able to have a good nights sleep.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Fortenberry, Julie. (2022). Grandpa &amp; Jake. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about a grandpa and his grandson, Jake. The grandpa wants to take Jake on an adventure. The whole way there, Jake is talking about things he wants to see and takes guesses on what they are going to see. They end up at the library, and all the things he wanted to see, he was able to find books about and experience all of it.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Dewdney, Anna. (2007). Llama Llama Mad at Mama.</p><ul><li><p>This book is a cute story about a mama llama and her child. Mama llama needed to go to the store, because they needed more groceries, and baby llama was happy to go. After being in the store for what felt like forever, the child got restless, and threw a fit. They were very mad at mama llama, but after she talked to them, they were all better.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Reynolds, Peter H. (2020). Be You.</p><ul><li><p>This book, is a short story full of positive encouragement for the reader. It encourages the reader to be themselves in a world that tries to get them to conform to the "norm" of the time. It helps explain to the reader that the world is so big, so step out and get uncomfortable. It encourages the reader to not be ashamed of themselves if they are different, because it is what makes them, them.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Kranz, Linda. (2006). Only One You.</p><ul><li><p>This book stresses on the idea that there is "only one you" so be you and don't let it hold you back from doing things in life. It encourages the reader to go out and make the world a better place by just being them. It shows how valuable an individual person is, and how each individual has something to bring to the table. The encouragement helps the main character, Adri, as he grows up.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Rabe, Tish. (2009). There's No Place Like Space!</p><ul><li><p>This book is about the cat in the hat and how he takes the kids to space. They learn about each one of the planets, constellations, and the moon. They make their way all the way through the solar system, and have to travel back home. The cat in the hat gives them a telescope as a goodbye gift and he goes on his way.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Lovell, Patty. (2001). Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little girl named Molly who is different from everyone else in her school. She gets made fun of, especially by this one kid named Ronald Durkin. She was very short, had a terrible singing voice, and could even balance pennies on her buck teeth. She didn't let any of it get to her because her grandmother always taught her to love herself no matter what others think.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Wood, Audrey. (1996). The Bunyans.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about the Bunyan family and their life. The parents have two children and they travel around the United States. The children along with the parents make different parts of the world like the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and Old Faithful. Everyone ends up getting older and the children go their separate ways, and the parents get to live the  rest of their lives happy as could be.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Kinkead, Susie. (1992). My Principal Lives Next Door.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about if a childs' principal were to move next door to them. Everyone in the school was scared of her, especially the child who lived next door to her. The child kept failing their multiplication tables, and they got called to the principals' office. The principal took them home and made them practice, and after a while, they passed finally.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Munsch Robert. (2001). Makeup Mess.</p><ul><li><p>Julie saves up all her money to go buy a giant box of makeup to make herself look beautiful. She goes in the bathroom and puts on a face full of makeup and makes her family pass out. She then goes and washes it off and realizes that she is beautiful without it. She goes to sell her make up for $300 to the community and invests in a lot of clothes to dress up in.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Beaty, Andrea. (2013). Rosie Revere, Engineer.</p><ul><li><p>This book gives the modern day encouragement that Rosie the Riveter gave to girls back during WWII. The main character, Rosie's, great-great aunt is Rosie the Riveter. Rosie was always so creative, but failed and it put her down a lot. Her aunt reminded her that at least a little win is a win no matter how big or small.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Jane, Mary. (2002). The Princess and the Pizza.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a girl named Paulina who is being forced to be in a competition that makes her a princess. She is not the type of girl who should be princess because she is not the girly type. They made her sleep on sixteen mattresses with a pea under it, and she got no sleep at all. There was a baking competition, and instead of doing it, she took a nap. She found out that that she would be beheaded if she didn’t win, so she cooked a pizza, and ended up winning.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Jackson, Ellen. (1994). Cinder Edna.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a girl named Edna who was sisters with Cinderella. She was very different than her though. Cinderella was very sweet, calm, and graceful while Edna was the complete opposite. They both went to the ball, but when midnight struck, they both ran back to their house, but their men didn’t stop looking for them. Their men found them, and they lived happily ever after.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Dismondy, Maria. (2008). Spaghetti on a Hot Dog Bun.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a girl named Lucy who is very different from the other kids in her school. She gets bullied by this boy named Ralph, and he makes her really sad. One day he gets stuck on top of the monkey bars and starts crying. She goes and saves him, and they become friends. He gives her a picture and he stops bullying her.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Dorros, Arthur. (1991). Abuela.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little girl named Rosalba who is with her Spanish grandmother in New York City. There are Spanish phrases in this book that is spoken by the grandmother, and the little girl translates it for the reader. They are going through the city, and they are point out different things about it. She imagines what it would be like to fly over the city with her grandmother.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Hamilton, Kersten. (2021). Green Tractor. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about a little green tractor who lives on a farm. He has a lot of jobs to do to prepare for the pumpkin patch that will be happening later that night. He has to move things around like dirt, hay, and pumpkins. He then finishes everything that he needs to do, and the children show up, and he is able to see all his hard work pay off.&nbsp;</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Goodhart, Chloe. (2022). Birding for Babies A Numbers Book.</p><ul><li><p>This book names different birds and some facts about them. Each page has a paragraph that rhymes as well as a fun fact section. This book teaches numbers, colors, and facts. The most interesting fact was how a red-bellied woodpecker can stick its tongue out two inches past its long beak.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Stein, Joshua David. (2021). Solitary Animals Introverts of the Wild.</p><ul><li><p>This book quickly shows that solitary means to be alone. It shows examples of different types of animals who typically spend time alone and some that spend time with other animals. Different animals that are in a group all have different names depending on the animal. Some examples are schools, pods, gulps, and more.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Sheffield, Heidi Woodward. (2022). Ice Cream Face.</p><ul><li><p>The main character in this book loves ice cream and every thing about it. They had to wait in line for their turn to get ice cream, and while in line they noticed how everyone had a different face while eating their ice cream. The character finally got their ice cream and was so happy, but accidentily dropped it. All of the different people with ice cream faces worked together to help give them back some ice cream.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Kirk, Daniel. (2022). The Big Slide.</p><ul><li><p>Little pup was always very scared of the big slide at the park and often got discouraged when he was there with it. He was so sad one day that he left the park with his mom. His mom encouraged him to slide down something else, and he did, so he felt motivated to slide down other things. He met with a school friend and they motivated each other to go down the slide, and Little Pup finally went down and loved it.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

It is around Halloween time and everyone is getting their pumpkins to carve. No one chooses Stumpkin because they want pumpkins with stems. At the end, the storeowner ends up getting him and carving him for all the children to see in the window on Halloween night.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Arndt, Ingo. (2013). Best Foot Forward Exploring Feet, Flippers, and Claws.</p><ul><li><p>This book in an informational text that shows an up close look at different animals feet. In each page it gives different types of feet like fins or flippers. There is one animal that the page focuses on and then other animals that have the same type of feet. The animals are from different ecosystems and walks of life.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Miller, Pat Zietlow. (2022). In Our Garden.</p><ul><li><p>The main character in this book just moved to America and was missing the types of food that they had in their garden at home. She said that she missed the taste of carrots from home, and she told her class that. They worked together to build a garden and waited for what seemed like forever for things to sprout. When they finally sprouted, the whole community came together to eat the food.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Heming, Alice. (2020). The Leaf Theif.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a squirrel who cannot figure out why the leaves on his tree keep going away. He goes to his friend and swears that he stole them, but he assures him he didn't. He wakes up the next morning and sees that more are gone and goes to ask more of his friends to see if they stole them. He finds out the leaves are falling because it is fall and they are all on the ground. The story ends with there being snow on the ground and he thinks that someone stole the grass.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Donaldson, Julia. (1999). The Gruffalo.</p><ul><li><p>There is a little mouse who meets some animals who would typically eat him. He explains to them that there is a creature called a Gruffalo who would eat them. He made the character up in his mind and goes about his day. He then meets the Gruffalo and shows him that all the animals are scared of him, but in a reality, they are scared of the Gruffalo. The story ends with the gruffalo being scared of the mouse.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Dr. Seuss. (1957). The Cat in the Hat.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about two siblings who get a crazy visit from the Cat in the Hat. They were told to sit and look out the window until their mother got home but the cat had other plans. He completely destroyed the house and the children's mother came home. They were worried about how they were going to clean it up, but the cat ended up cleaning up the mess he made and said he never leaves things out when he comes to play. The mother came home, and the kids were in front of the window like she asked.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Roberts, Ken. (2014). Dear Mr. Winston From When I Went to the Library.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a girl who got a snake from a friend and wanted to figure out what kind of snake it was. She took it to her local library to research about it, but ended up scaring the librarian so bad that he had to go to the hospital. Her father made her write a letter that was genuine, but her letter gives off the impression that she doesn't really care that much. She writes in her letter that the snake might be with him at the library, which shows that she doesn't know when to add things and when not to. She signed her letter with her name and it was sent to Mr. Winston.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Jory, John. (2021). The Good, The Bad, and The Spooky.</p><ul><li><p>This story is about a sunflower seed named Mr. Seed who is in a bad mood because he cannot find the perfect costume. He was so mad that he announced to everyone that Halloween was postponed. A kind pumpkin seed came up to him and told him that Halloween is about having fun and hanging out with friends. This changed his perspective, and so he went and made a costume and enjoyed Halloween with his fellow seeds.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Simms, Laura. (1998). Rotten Teeth.</p><ul><li><p>Main character, Melissa Hermann, is the shortest girl in her entire grade, and was the last person in her class who hadn’t brought anything in for Show and Tell. With her brothers help, he talks her into bringing a jar of rotten teeth that her father, who is adentist, had sitting in their at home office. When showing the teeth to the class, it was quickly shut down by the teacher, and Melissa was very embarrassed. She told herself she would never talk again, but during recess, her whole class was coming to her wanting to hear stories of the dentist office. She wanted to run home and tell her brother all about her day but found her dad at the door to pick her up. They went to eat, and he told her to. Never bring the teeth again, so she brought all the weird things in their house for the rest of the year.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>

The Great Wall of Lucy Wu.</p><ul><li><p>This book is about a girl named Lucy Wu who is struggling to find her cultural identity with being a Chinese American girl. This story takes place the summer before her seventh-grade year where she is very excited about starting middle school. Everything is going well, until her Chinese aunt, Yi Po, visits from China and begins to force Lucy to conform to traditional Chinse traditions. She then is forced to share a room with her aunt. She tries to force Lucy to follow Chinese traditions while Lucy tries to act American to be able to fit in with her friends at school. Throughout the story, Lucy learns the importance of remembering where she came from and embracing who she truly is. The story ends when she learns to find the balance between being Chinese and American.</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Barrows, Annie. (2006). Ivy and Bean and the Ghose That Had to Go. </p><ul><li><p>This book is about two girls named Ivy and Bean who find out that their school's bathroom is haunted with a ghost. The said ghost was apparently causing a lot of problems and scaring all the girls when they could go the the bathroom. They decide that they are going to figure out how to get rid of the ghost. They find out that the "ghost" was actually a school prank which was a pipe that was hidden that was making noises.</p></li></ul></li></ol>]]></description>
