Learnt - Murex was a great contact, as was Accenture
Liked- visiting so many companies in a few days; appreciated being able to check a bag; hotel was really nice - appreciated that it included breakfast
Lacked - there was little to no opportunities for Marketing-focused careers; no contact with large tech companies (which make up so much of the Dublin business atmosphere and was a big selling point for this trip); wish has more time to network- even the Murex lunch felt very rushed;

Learnt

Learnt more about the Agile process, which I had only previously heard about. It was great to see it in action in Murex and Accenture.

Learnt about the economic landscape in Dublin, which has been useful in establishing Dublin as a possible destination for my future career

Liked

The sessions with Murex and Accenture were worth the trip - it would be amazing if all the sessions were like these (engaging and mindful of their audience, value-adding through networking lunches)!

Having a checked bag was useful; the hotel was more than satisfactory too.

Lacked

Contact with a large, mainstream company (eg. Google, Twitter) would have been great - I think many of us were expecting to visit at least one of these companies and were disappointed

I wish the visits were a bit more organised (eg. all visits by the Quay should have been arranged in the same day if possible) - a lot of the free time was spent shuttling to and from these places.

I wish all the participants of the trek were positive, motivated students. However, there were disagreements and significant amounts of negativity throughout this short trip. I also feel that not everyone was as invested in the trip as they ought to be. I hope that in subsequent years, each Dublin Trek applicant will be considered holistically, with equal emphasis placed on attitude and aptitude. Programme Directors should also be consulted to ensure that the selected students are positive representations of their Programme and UEBS. Also, as partnerships between UEBS and companies in Dublin stabilise over the next few years, I hope that UEBS is able to offer students a clearer idea of what they are signing up for in the Dublin Trek - this will ensure that all participants are engaged and invested in the trip.

Learnt
I am new to the technology innovation and consulting space, so I found each of the visits super interesting, informative, and thought provoking. The Agile work style was only a concept before this trip, and I took away from the trip ideas about how it can be applied to any industry that values innovation.

Liked (Loved?)
I thought there was a good balance of planned events and free time. I liked all of the company visits, but wish I wasn't feeling so exhausted during Murex so I could soak more in! I really enjoyed getting to know people from other programmes and had a blast at the Guiness Factory tour.

I thought it was a very positive experience and everyone on the trip that I got to talk to seemed engaged and brought something different to the table.

Lacked
I completely sympathise with the scheduling coordination that is required for this trip. In the future, it would be great to have just 1 company visit on the first day and then 2 on the second. The day of traveling and then two company visits made me feel like I had just finished an international travel day!

Learnt
- about agile processes at Murex - was very interesting to see it in action.
- a lot about Ireland and its ways of attracting investment

Liked
- the Accenture dock tour was really interesting and exciting to see some of the work they are doing.
- the IDA talk was really well done and full of interesting facts
- the free time to explore Dublin and the Guinness Factory Tour
- checked luggage was very useful
- the group of people - was fantastic to get to know people from other programs and with diverse interests - it was really valuable to be among such interesting and brilliant people. It was also great to hear about everyone's backgrounds and potential dissertation topics - it was an eye-opener to hear more about other programs and their opportunities and challenges. I think the group had a good atmosphere and were generally positive and engaged at the events.

Lacked
- more time to network (e.g. a lunch at Accenture after the talks might have gone down well)
- a more diverse group of companies - one of the big names of Dublin (Google, Facebook etc) would have been really interesting to visit

L - L - L
Learnt
- the technology sector is very clustered, technology companies are very diverse and also need employees from outside the technology space with little technology experience to succeed
- agility at Murex

Liked
- visiting rather "unknown" companies opened the eyes for the various job opportunities out there
- balance between free time and company visits: as the visits have been demanding and also exhausting, the free time could be used to recover or to discover Dublin
- the Guinness Tour: very interesting
- diversity within the group: getting to know people from different programmes
- Quality of Hotel

Lacked
- going to Dublin and not seeing Google or Facebook is a little disappointing
- An introduction session where everyone says their names and maybe an icebreaker is played should be done during the briefing sessions
- it appeared that the purpose why some students went on this trip was not to spend a good time with their peers and to gain the most out of the company visits but was more focused on their own interests. Maybe next time by making activities like the Guinness Trip mandatory this can be avoided
- BoI trip was interesting but I would have appreciated a better insight into the company as we could all google Ireland's history but maybe seeing their main office would have been nice
- Networking opportunity after Murex should be offered at every company. It is easier asking questions and getting to know people through a coffee or Lunch also regarding job opportunities

Learnt
- The history of Ireland and how that has lent itself to the economy seen today.
- The diverse and detailed nature of the technology sector in Ireland, found that fascinating.
- The AGILE process at Murex.

Liked/Loved
- Gaining thorough insights into the companies with visited and the work they actually do, especially Accenture @ The Dock - (actually loved this!).
- Guiness Tour - brilliant.
- The group of people on the trip, I think they made it.
- The hotel and location itself was great - the inclusion of breakfast was really appreciated too.
- The amount of free time available - I really felt as though I'd had a stimulating time at the companies visited but also got to enjoy Dublin to a thorough extent as well, the best of both worlds for sure.

Lacked
- A breather after we had landed, perhaps an hour at the hotel would have been beneficial, perhaps with an icebreaker session to get to know everyone on the trip (but this could also be done at meetings prior to the actual trip).
- Attendance at the networking events - the lack of alumni was a tad disappointing, but it was still a very enjoyable evening nonetheless.
- There was a lack of contribution I thought from some individuals on the trip, without wanting to name but not showing up to the Guinness Tour wasn't great when the Business School had been kind enough to organise it. I just think that would have made everyone's experience all the more better and engaging.

Overall it was a brilliant trip, I had a great time - so thank you very much Ros and Laura!

These objective should have communicated better so every student would have been on the same page and could have used their free time wisely.
-lack of networking opportunity at accenture
