Editing

This is the biggest area that I have developed in so far. In the preliminary task, I did little editing and I felt like I should have done more. However, as there were only two of us in the group now, the editing knowledge was at a low. However, as a team, we watched many tutorial videos to create the final thriller opening that we have. Cutting videos, editing sound, adding text to videos are all things I can do using Premiere Pro CC and After Effects. I am very proud of Emily and myself for achieving what we have achieved with editing. Things that I learnt to do during this task...

Camera Work

I feel that I was a lot more involved in operating the camera during the thriller opening task. I also believe that we used more shots than the preliminary task and I know where to position the camera to create these shots. In total, we used 7 different shot types in our thriller opening; whereas, only 2 were used in the preliminary task. Having a greater range of shots can attract the audience more but having too many can make the film appear crowded. We also used our iPhones to film part of the film. With the global updates in technology today, it produced just as good quality as the DSLR.

Final Opinions

I believe that there are certain bits of technology out there that are more useful than others at different times. For example, we used a tripod throughout most of the film except for two scenes. One of those scenes was of me walking away from the camera heading off to the party. It was effective to not use a tripod as it appeared like a handicam and Emily's point of view. It made the audience feel more involved with the opening. Another thing more useful is our iPhones. We have a booking system at school; therefore, the camera are only available to us if we have a time slot. As we have our phones on us most of the time, it was useful to have it handy to film. It has just as good quality as the cameras and without them, our thriller opening may not have been possible.
