• May 2026: one teacher is in Ansbach, Germany on a Job Shadowing mobility

• Autumn 2026: 5th year students mobilities to Austria and France; TY Exchanges; Job-Shadowing; Invited experts from Austria and Germany

• Spring 2027: 5th year Exchange; Job-Shadowing

During their stay, the students joined classes at the school and experienced the German education system first-hand. Living with host families also gave them a wonderful opportunity to experience everyday life in Germany, practise their German outside the classroom and learn more about local traditions and culture.

The exchange came to an end with a final day at Ostendorfer Gymnasium, where the students received their attendance certificates in recognition of their participation. The certificates were presented by Mr Dölle, School Principal, and Ms Brogelli, our mentor teacher in Neumarkt.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Ms Brogelli for all her support in organising the students’ stay and for looking after them throughout their time in Neumarkt. We are also very grateful to Ostendorfer Gymnasium and the host families for welcoming our students and making their exchange such a positive and memorable experience.

Their time in Graz provided them with the opportunity to explore Austrian culture, experience school life in another country and use their German in real-life situations every day. Beyond the classroom, the exchange allowed them to discover a new city, meet new people and gain a deeper understanding of life and culture in Austria.

After two very enjoyable weeks, Lily and Daria began their journey home. They were accompanied to Vienna Airport by Erasmus+ coordinator Ms Görsdorf, who supported them as they made their way back to Ireland.

A huge thank you to Ms Görsdorf, Elisabeth and Mr Reicher, as well as the staff at HLW Schrödinger and the host families, for their support, care and hospitality throughout the exchange.

As part of this exciting international learning experience, the students spent time at our partner school in Nantes, where they were getting the opportunity to experience the French education system, meet local students, practise their language skills and gain a valuable insight into everyday life in another European country.

But learning doesn't stop when the school day ends! In their free time, the students made the most of their stay by exploring Nantes and the surrounding area, discovering the local culture, visiting places of interest and experiencing all that this beautiful part of France had to offer.

A mobility like this is about so much more than travelling. It encourages our students to become more independent, confident and open-minded, while developing their communication skills and building friendships and memories that will stay with them long after they return home.

We are incredibly proud of Elodie, Layla, Hannah, Aisling and Sadie Rose and hope they enjoyed every moment of their Erasmus+ adventure!

What an incredible five days of Erasmus+ mobility for our 5th Year German students! From Vienna to Graz and back to Vienna, our students experienced a fantastic combination of collaborative learning, language practice, cultural discovery and new friendships.

Our journey began in Vienna, before heading to Graz and HLW Schrödinger, where we received a wonderfully warm welcome. Over the following days, our students immersed themselves in school life in Austria — taking part in lessons, exploring the school, working alongside Austrian and Spanish students, and celebrating Erasmus+ together.

One of the highlights was the collaborative project “What Matters to Us – Youth Goal in Action”. Working in international groups, students shared ideas, explored issues that matter to young people and produced incredibly creative short films and posters.

Our mobility was not only about learning in the classroom. We explored the beautiful city of Graz, visited Schlossberg, enjoyed the excitement of the famous slide down the hill, and experienced traditional Austrian food. We also had the fascinating opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Graz Opera House, discovering a very different side of the world of theatre.

On our final day, after saying goodbye to our new friends in Graz, our explorers travelled back to Vienna. We visited the magnificent Belvedere Palace, explored some of the city's historic landmarks on a guided tour with Ms Giyazova, and simply enjoyed wandering through Vienna's beautiful streets.

Most importantly, our students return home with new friendships, greater confidence, wonderful memories and a deeper understanding of European culture and education.

Campus facilities include on-site accommodation, dining services, agricultural fields, greenhouses, and proximity to Parc de la Gournerie for practical training. The school fosters a supportive, human-sized environment for academic and personal growth.

Through our partnership, students and staff from both schools participate in: 

- Engaging exchange programs that allow students to experience new cultures and form lasting friendships.   

- Joint projects focused on shared interests such as language learning, and French/Irish culture and heritage. 

- Opportunities to improve language abilities and strengthen essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and language awareness. 

We are excited to continue this valuable partnership with Lycée Jules Rieffel, fostering cross-cultural connections and providing memorable educational experiences. 

During the visit, a wide range of classes were observed, providing valuable insight into the German education system. The experience offered an excellent opportunity to explore different teaching methodologies and classroom practices, particularly in the areas of student engagement, differentiation, and the integration of digital tools in teaching and learning.

Collaboration with German colleagues was a key highlight of the visit. Professional discussions allowed for the exchange of ideas and best practices, supporting the development of innovative approaches that can be brought back and implemented in our own classrooms. Observing how lessons are structured and delivered in a different educational context has provided fresh perspectives on effective teaching strategies.

In addition to professional learning, the visit played an important role in strengthening international links. New relationships were established with staff at Johann Steingruber Schule, creating exciting opportunities for future Erasmus+ projects, including potential student exchanges and staff mobility programmes.

Overall, the job shadowing experience was both enriching and inspiring. It has contributed significantly to expanding our school’s capacity for high-quality teaching and learning, while also reinforcing our commitment to fostering a European dimension in education.
