Painted in 1888, Starry Night Over the Rhone, an artwork by Vincent Van Gogh is now widely known throughout the world. In this particular artwork Van Gogh has perfectly capture the raw beauty of the scene. Going into extremely fine detail, from the carefully painted boats in the harbor to the tiny little bridge connecting the headlands. The most important aspect of this painting is definitely the colour. Throughout the entire piece colour is used. No matter where you look there's colour, although some spots stand out more than others. For example the stars are the most bright and daring of all the colours used, and when put against the dark blues of the sky, they are enhanced and become a true part of the artwork. Making it come to life. And its unique and individual character makes is what makes it most special.

One of Van Gogh's most powerful influences was Paul Gauguin. He enjoyed the way his artworks were so realistic. And after they met in Paris 1887, Van Gogh's artworks became more and more life like.Van Gogh wasn't just influenced by other artists, he also took influence from the world around him. Majority of Van Gogh's artworks were inspired by the natural world. For example, one of Van Gogh's most famous pieces "Starry Night" was greatly inspired by nature as well as his fascination with the stars. At the beginning of Van Gogh's carer he tried to recreate other artists styles. Although the result was not promising. The fashion of the time was to create dull and realistic artworks, but Van Gogh's Paintings seemed to lack both of those things. Soon Van Gogh had developed his own very new and unique style. His artworks are filled with colour and bold shapes and lines. They are truly unique.
