  • What does the terms have to do with race?
    • It’s a barrier between the white and black races.  It separates them and justifies the whites as superior. 


    2. Is the reference positive or negative?
                Yes it is negative, because the object was to segregate the races, through things such as: marriage, buses, restaurants, schools and prisons. 

    3.  What is it’s origin?
    • It has often been attributed a song and dance of blacks and was a reaction to Andrew Jackson’s populist policies.

    4. What do you think this reference might have to do with police act
    The JIm Crow laws influenced how people see African American and other ethnicities with segregation of those races. The way those races were treated and looked down upon have an affect on the way they’re looked at and treated today. Stereotypes from the Jim Crow laws have an effect on how Racial Profiling might even be thought of.

The name “JIm crow” comes from an old fictional character in a story written by Thomas Dartmouth. He was a clumsy dimwitted black slave and these segregation laws were named after him. The laws were legalized in 1880 and this let segregation between blacks and whites happen. This then pushed the “black codes Whites had more rights than blacks  such as bathrooms, water fountains, and restaurants while blacks got the worst.The long term effects were “racial prejudices and injustices.” A short term effect was that many blacks were given back to their slave owners, resulting in them being taken advantage through harsh conditions.
