Reading aloud to students can help students expand their imagination and form a better understanding of the English language. When reading aloud the reader should speak clearly with good diction and a good understanding of the sentence structure. The reader should also use emotion while reading to help the students engage with the story, (ex: character voices). The reader should also give the students time to see pictures or ask students to predict the next page to help develop their comprehension and reasoning skills.

I believe that reading aloud benefit students so they can start comprehending how to say more difficult words, connect the words they are hearing to the pictures the main be seeing, and provide an environment for learning and asking questions about things they do understand. By reading aloud, students hear new words from more experienced readers. They also could be inspired to learn to read. Read alouds will provide a student time to use their imagination rather than focus on the words they may not know or understand. Reading aloud also teaches students how to sit quietly and still.

Another benefit is, I think it helps students comprehend words, and the story that they are reading. Sometimes I catch myself having to go back and reread something because when I read it in my head, I didn't comprehend it. It also helps students to learn how to read with expression and tone. There are a lot more benefits I could talk about.

Read alouds help students to increase their reading comprehension. Sometimes students can pick up in the small things that a teacher might do during a read aloud that allows them to understand the story more. For example, if a teacher is animated in an angry way during one character’s narration, students can easily pick up on the character’s tone and meaning. Students are more likely to be focused on simply getting through the story rather than absorbing the information that the story is presenting when they are reading it themselves. Students who dislike reading may love being read to, which encourages them to give books a chance. When students read aloud themselves it can help them to build confidence and allows them to be more fluent readers.
