The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat in a secondary strike against a suspected drug vessel in early September did not appear to have radio or other communications devices, the top military official overseeing the strike told lawmakers on Thursday, according to three sources with direct knowledge of his congressional briefings.

As far back as September, defense officials have been quietly pushing back on criticism that killing the two survivors amounted to a war crime by arguing, in part, that they were legitimate targets because they appeared to be radioing for help or backup — reinforcements that, if they had received it, could have theoretically allowed them to continue to traffic the drugs aboard their sinking ship.

Defense officials made that claim in at least one briefing in September for congressional staff, according to a source familiar with the session, and several media outlets cited officials repeating that justification in the last week.

She was charged with murder in 2023 and also charged with attempted murder due to her lacing her husbands food. She faces many other charges unrelated to her husbands death, such as mortgage fraud.

Many years after a woman and her 2 year old daughter were killed their suspected killer appeared before a Florida judge on Thursday and is now facing murder charges. Andrew Dykes, 66, was charged with two accounts of murder with the 1977 death of Tanya Jackson. Jackson was only 26 when she was found in Lakeview in June of 1977. The body of her 2 year old daughter Tatiana was found 14 years later near Gilgo Beach. The girls remains were found in 2011 close to another woman's remains that were found so this led to the speculation the deaths were the work of the Gilgo Beach serial killer.

Just recently, the Texas police department released over 20 hours of 911 calls from the July 4th flash flood. The police chief said in a video interview, “Some callers did not survive. We ask that you keep them and their family members, loved ones, and friends in your thoughts and prayers.” At 2:52 am on July 4th, 435 calls were answered within six hours, and another 100 between 4 and 5 am. The police chief said he was very proud of his dispatch officers and their ability to handle the immense call load and how many people they were able to console within a short amount of time.

In a pub at the top of the south island of New Zealand a baby seal showed up and crawled into the pub. While guests tried to usher the small seal out with their coat the seal freaked out and ran to the bathroom. The seal then hid under a dishwasher that had its power cut immediately to make sure the seal didn't get hurt. Finally conservation rangers arrived at the scene and relocated the seal to a beach where dogs weren't allowed. The rangers stated that it wasn't unusual for seals to show up in random places and they had been tracking this seal for a while. The owner of the pub said the seal was welcomed back anytime.

The mysterious death of Brianna Aguilera, an A&M student, has been ruled a suicide after they found a suicide note on her phone and previous comments about self-harm. For some background, the investigation began at 12:46 a.m. Saturday, when officers responded to an Austin apartment complex and found Aguilera on the ground with trauma from an apparent fall from a high floor. Some cameras showed her arriving at the apartment complex shortly after 11 p.m. and going to the 17th floor. The video showed "a large group of friends left that same apartment at 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 29, leaving just Brianna and three other girls in the apartment," Austin Police Detective Robert Marshall said. Earlier on Friday, Aguilera was at a tailgate for the Texas A&M vs. University of Texas football game, and she "became intoxicated to a point where she was asked to leave," Marshall said.

Aguilera told her friends that she lost her phone, and she borrowed a phone to call her boyfriend. Witnesses heard her argue on the phone with her boyfriend, Marshall said. That phone call took place from 12:43 a.m. to 12:44 am, two minutes before a 911 call, he said.

Defense attorneys said that Walshe didn't know about the affair and that there was stress in their marriage due to the federal case but that he loved his wife.
