Goodpasture syndrome
Goodpasture syndrome
Causes: It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue. People with this syndrome develop substances that attack a protein called collagen in the tiny air sacs in the lungs and the filtering units of the kidneys
Cures: Treatment usually includes oral immunosuppressive drugs such as cyclophosphamide and corticosteroids. These drugs decrease the immune system's production of Goodpasture syndrome antibodies.
How it affects the body: Goodpasture syndrome is a group of conditions that affects the kidneys and the lungs. It includes glomerulonephritis, bleeding in the lungs, and a problem with your immune system that causes it to attack the tiny filters in your kidneys and the tissue in your lungs. If Goodpasture syndrome is not diagnosed and treated quickly, it can cause death.
Polycystic Kidney Disease
Polycystic Kidney Disease
Causes: It is a genetic disease meaning that it is caused by a problem or mutation with your genes.
Cures: There are yet no cures for this genetic disease but medications for symptoms may be given to the patient.
How it affects the body: It causes cysts to grow inside the kidneys. These cysts make the kidneys much larger than they should be and damage the tissue that the kidneys are made of. PKD can cause chronic kidney disease , which can lead to kidney failure.
Acute Kidney Failure
Acute Kidney Failure
Causes: Acute kidney injury has three main causes: A sudden, serious drop in blood flow to the kidneys. Heavy blood loss, an injury, or a bad infection can reduce blood flow to the kidneys. Not enough fluid in the body also can harm the kidneys.
Cures: It depends on how long it takes your kidneys to recover. Treatment options depend on the cause of your kidney failure.
How it affects the body: Experiencing direct damage to kidneys can take place. The kidney's urine drainage tubes can become blocked and wastes won't be able to leave the body through urine.
Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic Kidney Disease
Causes: Type 1 and 2 Diabetes can lead to this kidney disease. High blood pressure and recurrent kidney infections can also cause it.
Cures: The type of treatment depends on severity. However, there are many medications that help manage symptoms. Filtering blood with machines (dialysis) or transplant may be needed if conditions are serious.
How it affects the body: It causes kidney damage to worsen over several months and even years. This disease can cause heart and blood vessel disease. It is also known for causing pregnancy complications.
Amyloidosis
Amyloidosis
Causes: This disease is not fully understood fully but genes may take role. It is caused by abnormal and excess production of proteins.
Cures: Chemotherapy and stem cell transplant may be able to cure the disease.
How it affects the body: Clumps of abnormal protein build up in certain organs making it harder for the organs to work correctly. It soon leads to kidney failure which can be life threatening.
