It lets the President use armed forces against any conflict and lets the president take any necessary measures.

This is significant because it could let the President use his anger against Vietnam.

Communist forces seized control of South Vietnam in 1975, then the next year Vietnam was declared the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. A major effect was the death toll. The war killed 2 million Vietnamese civilians, 1.1 million North Vietnamese troops, and 200,000 South Vietnamese troops. Another effect was the U.S. troops. Over 58,300 troops went missing or died.

This was a part of the Cold War because it was part of the overall challenge to try and stop the communist conflict. The U.S. was trying to stop the communist spread and part of Vietnam was trying to spread communism so the U.S. helped the Southside to stop the spread. Although the USSR wasn’t really involved the U.S still had its approach to stop communism. This connects to the present day because the U.S. still doesn’t like communism. The U.S. still helps any non-communist nation. The U.S. still follows to not help any communists to stop the spread.

Works Cited

History.com Editors. “Vietnam War.” History.com, A&E Television Networks, 29 Oct. 2009, www.history.com/topics/vietnam-war/vietnam-war-history.

History.com Editors. “Vietnam War Timeline.” History.com, A&E Television Networks, 13 Sept. 2017, www.history.com/topics/vietnam-war/vietnam-war-timeline.
