Below is images of the document that put the Missouri Compromise into written law. While admitting Missouri as a slave state, it also banned slavery north of Missouri's southern border, the 36°30' latitude line. This geographically divided the country into a slave-holding South and a free North.
A transcript of the compromise can be found here:
https://www.ourdocuments.gov/doc.php?flash=false&doc=22&page=transcript

The most controversial bill passed during the compromise was the strengthening of the Fugitive Slave Law. The new act stated that runaway slaves must be returned to their owner in the South by law. People who disobeyed this law would suffer consequences. It was controversial since many northern states decided not to enforce it. This is one example of a flyer made about the amended Fugitive Slave Law. This amended law was supposed to balance out the endx of the slave trade in Washington D.C. (one of the bills), which moved the capital one step closer to ending slavery all together there.
