After completing his education at Haydarpaşa High School, Ümit Deniz studied at the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University and at the Faculties of English Language and Literature.  Since 1941, he had been working as a reporter and writer for the newspapers Tan, Son Telgraf, Cumhuriyet, Yeni Sabah, Tasvis and Milliyet.  He starred in several films and made vocalizations.  He was famous for carrying red cloves on his collar.  He died of a heart attack in Istanbul on May 14, 1975 when an exhibition at the Hilton Hotel was opened.  His grave is in Karacaahmet Cemetery.

Pirinçci was born on 20 October 1959 in Istanbul, Turkey, but emigrated to Germany together with his parents in 1969. He began to write fiction at a young age, and published his first novel Tränen sind immer das Ende ("tears are always the end") in 1980, at the age of 21. His next literary work, published in 1989, was the novel Felidae, a work of crime fiction with cats as the main protagonists. The novel has been translated into 17 languages and became an international bestseller.
Due to the success[citation needed] of the novel, Pirinçci expanded his concept of "cat crime fiction" and published several sequels to Felidae, out of which Felidae II and Felidae V (Salve Roma!) have been translated into English. An animated movie based on Felidae, the script of which had been co-written by Pirinçci, was produced in Germany in 1994, and was also dubbed in English.
Pirinçci has published several other novels which were not set in the fictional world of the Felidae series – however, none of those works have reached such a high degree of popularity. Lately, however, he had some success with the thriller "The Back Door", which was adapted for the screen in Germany, with Mads Mikkelsen in the leading role. "The Back Door" is the only standalone novel of Pirinçci's that has been translated into English.

Although he was not particularly a crime novel writer; due to that his crime novel with the name of Her Temas İz Bırakır was liked and recognised much, he started to be known along with this novel of his, like a crime novel writer.
After that recognition, this novel became an inspiration to a television serial called Behzat Ç., which is the name of the main character in the book. He also scribed the scenery of the serial's ten episodes. Later, his novel translated into German.
However, he was arrested after he confessed by taking over the accusation on his friend that the car accident which had caused two people to die was because of him as the one that had been driving was not his friend but him, and he was imposed with eighteen years in jail.
