Early in the year, we wrote essays on "The Fountainhead," by Ayn Rand (I know, I know), and she talked about mine in front of the class. She started by saying she read my thesis and then immediately was ready with her red pen, because she knew I was wrong, having read the book so many times. But as she read my paper, I changed her mind about the book. I showed her areading she hadn't seen before. That was powerful for a 14-year-old.
