He was a Roman emperor from 177 to 192. In 177 CE, Commodus became co-ruler with his father Marcus Aurelius until the death of his father, Commodus did not become sole emperor until 180 CE. After he became sole ruler, Commodus altered his name to Marcus Aurelius Commodus Antoninus.

The attempted assassination failed, and Commodus executed several senators within the group. As time went on, he ruled with brutality while descending into insanity. Looking through his cruelty, we do see a few accomplishments. He had two accomplishments. He kept the peace and stopped fighting with the Germans. He was self-centered and later lapsed into insanity. He never thought once about Rome and only thought about himself. He renamed Rome Colonia Commodiana (Colony of Commodus). Before his assassination, there was political unrest and once he died, civil war broke out in Rome. Overall, Commodus was an erratic ruler and was not suited for the role.
