A CSCP is a comprehensive school counseling program that improves the range of student learning and behavioral outcomes. These programs are comprehensive in scope, preventive in design and developmental in nature (Carey & Dimmitt, 2012). All comprehensive school counseling programs are supported by the appropriate resources and implemented by a credentialed school counselor.

How can a CSCP impact various levels of school safety from the indiv to the entire school?
A CSCP can impact various levels of school safety due to the scope and reach that is required to deliver the program. The rationale behind a comprehensive school program states that programs are driven by student data and based on the ASCA National Model which also delivers the program to all students in a systemic fashion. If the student data indicates that school safety is a concern of students and there is data to support this claim. It is the school counselors role to create a program that will address school safety at an individual and school wide level.

A CSCP can assist with addressing school safety through the leadership or creator of the program and the resources the program provides to students and the community. The leader or professional school counselor can include certain aspects in a CSCP that can teach students more on securing their safety. This can include having guest speakers from Law Enforcement and Fire Departments give presentations on safety tips. Also, this can include creating safety workshops and providing safety drills to the students and school.
