Often times people who practice the same culture stick together and this is capable of further developing false ideologies that could be harmful to other cultural groups, but this is not necessarily always the case.

Europeans ventured far away from home until they reached the "old world", where they realised that the systematic degradation and segregation of non-whites/europeans could become a means of gaining wealth and power.
Colonisation still effects the colonised to this day as there are systems in place to arrest development in affected areas. This makes the colonised countries dependent on their colonisers as they feel they have no way to govern without the input of the Europeans. 
Colonisation is also capable of perpetuating a sense of inferiority as well as a victim mentality as the colonised will eventually start to believe that the methods used to divide and conquer their people were justified as they are, in fact "the inferior race". Franz Boas, a phycological anthropology or someone who studies the relationship between culture and personality, formulated a theory that I found interesting called cultural relativism. If you want to know more about the relationship between culture and personality I would recommend reading it as comprehensive understanding of the underlying topic.
