The setting of LOTF impacts Ralph in the story because when he realizes he is not only free of the rules of adults, but the freedom of being on an island with almost no one else, gives him a feeling of great excitement, and freedom. He symbolizes the young boy who just wants to do what he wants without being told by adults not to do it. He symbolizes the boy that doesn't care how he will be found or if he will be found, but the character who lives in the moment without a care in the world. He symbolizes the character who finally feels free.

Johnny is focused on his bare needs. This includes food and going to the bathroom. Since he is so young all he knows is what he needs to do. Therefore, he is innocent and and maybe a little scared because he is so young. He was pretty much just dropped in a desert island and had/has to fend for himself. This shows his priorities and maybe the other characters will see and learn from this

For example Johnny may be a nice confident person however, due to the crash and his situation he isn't very happy, doesn't look nice because of his ripped cloths, and may be rather shy because he is horrified, and alone. I think this character will symbolize courage because of his young age and his courage not to cry immediately.

The setting of LOTF impacts what we see about Ralph because he is in this magical place where there are no parents and everything is great. Here Ralph almost feels at home and he does not want to leave. This shows him being deceived and him being in a place he is comfortable in which he finds like a paradise. This free setting then symbolizes Ralph's personality that is a complete opposite to Piggy's. He doesn't have to worry and I believe it is because for all his life he has depended o his parents and this is a time of independence for him. In Piggy's case on the other hand she is used to being on her own, it making it nothing special for her. Just with the first couple pages of the book we can conclude Ralph in human nature is kind of a memorized childish boy.

Johnny symbolizes the innocent kind who is caught up in a whole mess. At only 6 years old, he has been tasked with the difficult time of taking care of himself, and maintaining survival. Although he is young, he immediately takes on responsibility of surviving. When we first see him, he has his pants down showing that he has just been to the bathroom. At 6 years old, we can see that just by that action he is trying to take care of himself. To further prove that statement, we also see him eating berries to try and feed and take care of himself because ehe knows he is hungry. Although we are not positive of his full reaction of the scenario, we see him sucking his thumb proving that he is nervous and scared about the future and trying to comfort himself.

He sees the wilderness a little more exaggerated than Johnny who seems to have already started to take care of himself. Piggy seems to symbolize a need to be safe, or our ability to worry.

The setting of LOTF makes some characters feel like they are on an island paradise, where it makes others feel like they are completely stranded and will never be rescued. Piggy feels as if they will be there until they die, that no one knows where they are, and that no one will be able to rescue them. This develops him as a cautious, worrisome person who feels as if they need to be protected. On the other hand, Ralph thinks of this as a tropical paradise, with large, warm pools to swim in. This symbolizes him as a person who feels that he doesn't need anyone to tell him how to live, and that he is self-sufficient.

I believe that LOTF represents early humans. Johnny is a representation of an early human who focuses on bare necessities because in a world with no progress one is likely to rally to someone superior to them. Ralph and Piggy are rallied to because they are older, but they most likely represent powerful primitive people in an earlier time.

The setting in this story develops positive and negative character traits in the characters based on their different backgrounds. For example, Ralph thinks this island is a paradise because his dad probably treated him in a very strictly manner since he was in the Navy. Therefore, Ralph has so far been exposed to freedom and is having an amazing time unlike Piggy. Ralph symbolizes a butterfly because he was trapped in a cacoon for awhile and now he finally is free (butterrfly).

He doesn't try to immediately have fun like Ralph, and he also doesn't eat random berries like Johnny. Piggy realizes that they may be stuck on that island until they die, and thinks very pessimistically about the whole situation. Piggy is especially careful because of his Asthma which keeps him from doing many things on the island that Ralph seems to have fun doing.
