Jeannette was able accepted her past and instead of viewing her childhood as a tragedy she found the beauty in the way she lived. Jeanette said, "We started talking about some of dads greatest escapades: letting me pet the cheetah, taking us Demon Hunting, giving us stars for Christmas." The picture above shows that acceptance gave Jeannette some peace and she was able to move on.

The Walls kids had to constantly adapt to a new school and moving around. On page 29Jeannette asked Lori how many places they've lived in and Lori answers with “depends on what you mean by lived, if you spend one night in some town, did you live there? What about two nights? Or a whole week?” The picture above shows that since the Walls kids were always moving, they will always stand out.

Once you disappoint someone you lose their trust. After Rex takes the money from Oz you can see that Jeanette is disappointed in her dad and this changes how she views her dad. Jeanette said, "I know it was Dad, but at the same time, I couldn't believe he'd stoop this low." This picture shows that Jeanette got a clear vision on her dad, and stopped living in the fantasy.

Broken Promises become a fantasy. Rex always promised them that he would build a Glass Castle but he never was sober enough so they lived in the fantasy of a Glass Castle. Jeanette said, "I listen to Dad's plans and tried to encourage him, hoping that what he was saying was true but also pretty certain it wasn't." The picture above show that they were living in a fantasy of the Glass Castle.

No matter what her childhood was like, Jeanette will always love her parents. Jeanette said, "We raised our glasses. I could almost hear Dad chuckling at Mom's comment in the way he always did when he was truly enjoying something." The picture above shows that special bond between a father and daughter, the one Jeanette had with her Dad.

Fantasy vs Reality

Rex and Rose Mary often lived in a fantasy world, ofen one that hurt their kids. Jeanette said, "A few days later, when I had been at the hospital for about six weeks, Dad appeared alone in the doorway of my room. He told me we were going to check out Rex Walls-style." This shows that in Rex's fantasy he knows more than a doctor and takes Jeanette out before she could fully recover. The picture above shows that they are living in a fantasy world but at the end of the day those fantacys are hurting the kids by not having responsible parents who think rationally.
