Infanticide is the killing of young children and infants and this has been happening since the early times ,in early Rome i didn't see a specific date in the textbook it states that the father was given complete power to kill ,abandon, or even sell his child. Some cultures saw practice of infanticide as a means of controlling and maintaining the population. In England and in many different cultures as well infanticide was an unwed womans solution to her shameful act.

Children were dependent on their families not only the reason they wee born but also for survival. In Europe they established a concept of ownership and a hierarchy where children were at the bottom, and the children with poor families had it the worst. Some Children were slaves to their guardians having to do whatever they were told if not they would be beaten and neglected.

Discipline has always been a controversial topic school masters and mistresses was accorded the same right to use corporal punishment during school hours. In colonial Boston they would use an instrument called a flapper which was a 6 inch leather with a whole in the middle with a wooden handle in which they would strict the child on their bottom most of the time.

One of the earliest forms of child labor was called indenture, it was a system which a parent apprenticed their children to masters who taught them trade but who were free to use them as virtual slaves in exchange for room and board. Indenture begins at a young age and goes and continued to 14 and 16 years old for boys and 21 years old for girls , writing by historians proved that apprentice masters could be cruel.

going into the 1800s the United States the role of children remained the same and there was a little to no change, they continue to be property of their parents and would continue to still have to go to work. And they were not treated right they would get beat they would get neglected, and they were sent them to work as a population increase and society became more impersonal children being assaulted was more easily hidden.

In the late 1880s the settlement house movement evolved it helped the future of children and their families and had a substantial impact on the reduction of child labor. However, although they did not have as much child labor, children were still traumatized at the fact that they had to work in factories from early morning to late at night, with little to no brakes.
